This is my second time shooting Cyrene, and with only four days left until the version update of Honkai: Star Rail, there was a real sense of urgency. Pushing hard to finish editing this photoshoot before the update serves as a personal summary for this stage, as well as a small teaser for friends looking forward to the character's playable release.
Compared to the first shoot, quite a few iterations were made on the styling and makeup details this time. The wig was replaced with a lighter, non-reflective material. Although the pink-and-white gradient short hair inherently carries a dreamlike feel, managing the direction of the bangs and sideburns under strong outdoor light took a lot of effort, requiring both tape and hair wax. For the elf ears, I selected a silicone type closer to my skin tone this time, which, combined with the gradient concealer on the pinna, vastly improved the natural look. Paired with the uniquely shaped headpiece featuring a starry purple and light blue gradient on top of my head, the overall sense of layering popped out. The headpiece is actually quite heavy; its thimble material and metallic vines feel very realistic, requiring careful adjustments to balance when worn. It had to ensure both symmetry from the front in the frame and stability against the strong outdoor wind, held completely in place during the shoot by an invisible hair string.
As for the makeup, to highlight the character's ethereal and agile temperament, I enhanced the shimmering effect brought by the light purple contact lenses in the eye makeup, pairing them with pink blush and lip gloss to brighten up the look. Makeup easily washes out under the sun, so the setting concentration of highlights and shadows was several notches higher than in indoor studio shoots, allowing the slightly flushed effect on the cheeks to show up just right under the harsh light. The star-and-diamond ornament on the chest and its blue-purple gradient paint are very exquisite. The 3D blue flowers adorning the neckline are not too heavy while breaking the monotony of the white main tone. The white lace gloves worn on my hands have a very soft texture. Combined with the rings, they beautifully embody the character's elegance and gorgeousness when raising a hand to touch my face or making a pose.
Choosing an outdoor location for this photoshoot served as a challenge in light control. Although the highlights under the bright sun made the frame translucent, it was also easy to overexpose the details. To capture this lightweight, ethereal, elf-like feel, the photographer and I repeatedly adjusted camera positions from different angles, using the shade of leaves to create sun-dappled spots, letting the dancing light and shadow fall over my body, which perfectly set off the magical iridescent luster of the headpiece. Although a bit exhausted from the sun, seeing the output results through the viewfinder made all the adjustments and retakes entirely worth it. This texture, with a sense of intense sunlight yet maintaining a soft, dreamy aura, perfectly suits the character's atmosphere set up in the game during this outdoor photography session.
With four days left until the update, this version of the photoshoot consists of some lightly edited previews, mainly preserving the light and shadow atmosphere along with the costume details, hoping to give everyone a rough look before the official version. This shooting experience was wonderful, and I hope to convey this meticulous attitude toward costumes, props, and makeup. It is not only an accurate Anime recreation of the character's styling but also a personal summary of my shooting work this time.
