[Copano Rickey cosplay] Energetic Photoshoot Paired with a Yellow-and-Red Itasha

When shooting this Copano Rickey Itasha on-location set, coordinating the positioning between the person and the car took the most time. The decals on the car body are very intricate, featuring not only character artwork but also various racehorse logos. Poor positioning would not only obscure key decal details but also cause the subject's outline to blend into the car's edges, disrupting visual balance. The outfit's color scheme is predominantly orange-yellow with red-and-white lace and blue gloves, which is already quite vibrant. To capture perfect details, we put a lot of thought into the lighting setup. The front hood's paint was highly reflective; to prevent capturing the photographer's reflection on the paint, we tested various lighting angles and ultimately chose large softboxes to evenly disperse light across both the model and the car. A clean off-white background was the best choice, allowing the high-saturation costume and Itasha to instantly pop out.

Throughout the shoot, I paid close attention to my framing to ensure I wasn't cut off at the edges of the frame for visual comfort. In particular, the skirt has many layers; when showing leg lines, the folds had to be neatly arranged so as not to disrupt the leg's appearance. For sitting poses, preventing the skirt from getting jammed against the car seat required constant posture adjustments. To fit the theme of riding a chariot in the year of the horse, posing by the front of the car required standing tall with confidence. The 'chariot' here was an exquisite yellow-and-white sports car with massive, vibrant decals. The graphic on the car door was especially eye-catching; the character's joyful expression matched my genuine state perfectly.

The plush doll in hand is super cute, serving as a great visual anchor that resonates strongly with the character. While the outfit looks gorgeous, putting it on, taking it off, and moving around in it isn't easy. The horns and head accessories had to be checked repeatedly to ensure they stayed straight and secure. Walking in high platform boots in the studio required caution, but they nicely elongated the leg proportions, completing this photoshoot dedicated to showcasing cuteness and vitality. We tried many poses—standing in front of the car hood, leaning against the side, and sitting inside the car—with subtle lighting differences in each position. Especially for the seated shot inside the car where the roof blocked ambient light, a dedicated fill light was needed for the face. The red tassels and large flower accessories increased styling difficulty, easily snagging on the door frame.

In post-processing, focus was placed on white balance adjustments on the car paint to make the yellow-and-red palette purer while preserving fabric textures. To keep the image clean, we avoided complex composites, relying instead on solid on-set lighting. The emphasis was placed on the contrast between the character's innocent demeanor and driving this handsome Itasha. This stylish yellow steed parked in the white studio unified seamlessly with the costume's color tones. Overall, the biggest takeaways from this shoot were mastering light control and patiently managing costume details.
