[Komazawa Noi cosplay] Cosmic Princess Kaguya! Bilibili World Convention Photo Record

This time at Bilibili World, I cosplayed Komazawa Noi from Cosmic Princess Kaguya!. The environment for a convention photo is notoriously complicated, with high foot traffic, passersby, and display booths everywhere. I brought along a white plush rug and scouted a corner with relatively clean lighting to shoot. The outfit has an incredible amount of layering: the top features pink and dark blue color-blocking, scalloped black trim along the neckline, and delicate white lace accents. To recreate her slightly techwear-inspired aesthetic, a leather corset was used to cinch the waist, complemented by decorative red webbing across the shoulders. The skirt is quite short, styled with lace-trimmed white mid-calf stockings and red thigh straps to build sharp visual depth. For footwear, I opted for glossy black platform Mary Janes—the buckle details and gear-tread soles matched the costume's aesthetic seamlessly. Walking in these platforms all day was exhausting, but staying true to the full look was well worth the effort.

The wig styling took the longest during pre-production. It features a purple-black to pink gradient styled into twintails. I also reinforced the character's animal ears and horns, using hairspray and hairnets to piece out natural hair texture strand by strand. Makeup-wise, I wore pink contacts and deepened the eye makeup to align closely with her demeanor. Shooting convention photos on-site makes light control the biggest hurdle. The photographer utilized portable fill lights to drop background exposure, making the subject and costume fabrics pop prominently. That close-up angle in the first shot was specifically chosen to emphasize the texture of the stockings and shoes, with the red straps against white socks creating an eye-catching contrast.

While shooting on location at BW, I met numerous fans of the series. Even in an open convention setting, everyone was considerate, and several photographer friends dropped by to assist with lighting and discuss framing. When posing seated, built-in safety shorts and the plush rug allowed me to pose freely with peace of mind. The red thigh straps were tied quite snugly and left slight indents over time—a necessary compromise to stay faithful to the design. Overall, the fabric choice for this Komazawa Noi costume offered great texture and held a beautiful luster under the hall lights. I am delighted with the final shots, as both expressions and postures turned out natural. If the opportunity arises, I hope to shoot this character again in a dedicated studio setting for a proper indoor series.
