[Yakumo Yukari cosplay] Touhou Project: Luxurious Set of the Gap Yokai - Image 1

Shooting this set of Touhou Project Yakumo Yukari cosplay photos, we primarily revolved around the elegance and mystery of the "Gap Yokai." We made thorough preparations for costume and prop coordination this time, striving to recreate the gorgeous yet slightly languid aura of the Sage of Gensokyo.

Long blonde hair paired with an intricate headpiece serves as one of the visual highlights of the look. The white base dress contrasts with black lace edges, while red ribbons at the neckline and waist add the perfect finishing touch to this black, white, and purple palette. To align with the character setting, we specifically chose a gorgeous dress with abundant purple ruffles; its skirt layering is exceptionally rich, requiring careful arrangement across the set during shooting.

The set decoration was meticulously arranged, featuring classic wooden lattice grids and folding screens in the background, adorned with white skeleton decorations and porcelain. Combined with purple artificial flower clusters scattered around, it created a dreamlike ambiance bridging a Japanese style cosplay aesthetic and Western Gothic style. Visually, the sea of purple flowers and black plush props complement each other, while the lace parasol tied with a pink bow brings a soft yet hauntingly glamorous tone to the overall palette.

Lighting played a crucial role in this shoot. Photographer @雾雨若叶 utilized soft pinkish-purple light casting over the white dress hem and golden hair, giving the character's skin a translucent, glowing luster. This accentuated makeup refinement while allowing the background's purplish-pink light and shadow to melt together with the subject. For posing, I chose a reclining stance paired with a subtle hand-raising gesture, aiming to convey the composure and effortless ease of a great yokai, accompanied by a gaze carrying an all-seeing indifference.

Although the voluminous dress hem and intricate headpiece required constant angle adjustments to avoid wardrobe glitches, the moment the shutter clicked, the lens view made it feel as though I was truly standing in Gensokyo opened between gaps. The Touhou Project series carries the memories of many fans; when portraying Yakumo Yukari, I took extra care to capture her unique charm—strategizing from behind the scenes while enjoying observing humans from the fringes.

Beyond costumes and props, venue ambiance was another key focus of this cosplay photo shoot. When the parasol opened and overlapped with the purple flower clusters, that mysterious and ancient yokai aura was captured instantly. Through repeated communication with the photographer, we finalized several classic compositions that showcased ornate costume details while preserving the oriental flavor of the background. I'm quite satisfied with the atmosphere of this photo set; when rendering a classic character, maxing out the elusive, enigmatic divinity of her setting was the ultimate goal of this cosplay attempt.
