[Raiden Shogun Cosplay] Inazuma's Lightning: A Journey Intertwining Blade and Cherry Blossoms

For this outdoor photoshoot, we chose a setting under fully blooming cherry blossom trees. The costume features numerous Inazuma-style details—particularly the metallic texture on the left shoulder, the sash structure, and the long dark blue braided ponytail—all faithfully recreating the majestic aura from character design. For the wig, I selected dark blue hair fibers matching official concept art, styling straight-cut bangs and side framing locks to add depth and dimension, complemented by long orange-yellow tassel earrings on both sides to achieve high visual fidelity. For makeup, I opted against overly heavy eye makeup, instead pairing a natural skin-toned base with a light lip color to soften overly aggressive visual sharpness, allowing the character to exude an approachable warmth amidst this elegant ambient atmosphere. The inner neckline structure is relatively intricate, combining dark semi-transparent mesh paneling with fine red cord knotwork; these delicate details reveal distinct material texture contrasts under outdoor natural light, demanding high precision from the lighting setup.

It was quite windy during the shoot, with cherry blossom petals floating down intermittently, perfectly echoing the nature-infused aesthetic of Inazuma. Rather than overly dramatic combat stances, pose choreography focused on natural backward glances and side-profile standing postures. Motion flexibility within this outfit was somewhat constrained during large movements—especially since the broad shoulder armor restricted how high I could raise my arms—making static, near full-body compositions the most suitable choice to present the complete look. The location was a sunny cherry blossom pathway facing direct light, leveraging bright ambient light to accentuate the airy lightness of the white top section, while dark blue hair fibers rendered natural sheen gradients in shadowed areas. The camera lens was shot nearly wide-open at maximum aperture, casting background branches and flowers into soft bokeh that avoided distracting from the subject.

The entire production cycle was quite extensive—from completing makeup and hair styling to receiving final retouched edits, including waiting for passersby to clear the location to avoid background clutter. Regarding the cast of characters represented by Raiden Ei in Genshin Impact, their attire harmoniously blends Japanese style cosplay traditions with samurai armor features. The fabric drape and shoulder pauldrons' metallic sheen require specific lighting angles to fully shine on camera. This experience served as a valuable learning opportunity for shooting similar characters; if I attempt similar Japanese style cosplay concepts in the future, I may adjust strap placements around articulating joints to ensure smoother mobility and costume changing.
