Shooting this set of Genshin Impact Yae Miko cosplay under the night cherry blossoms was one of my most successful yet freezing experiences recently. While the photos look like a romantic spring night filled with blooming cherry blossoms and dreamy bokeh spots in the blurred background, the temperature that night was actually bitterly cold. I was practically in a state of 'smiling on the outside while shivering on the inside.' To capture her nimble yet mysterious presence, I put a lot of effort into posing. This red, white, and black Japanese style cosplay costume is rich in detail—from the unique crisscross knot on the chest and wide detached sleeves to the delicate prints and tassels on the skirt—giving the outfit rich layering. Holding the spiral catalyst Kagura Suzu along with the red-and-white Gohei in hand, these props immediately solidified her identity as a shrine maiden and divine deity.

We actually encountered many practical challenges during the shoot. For example, to convey lightness, I had to stand barefoot on rough stones or repeatedly walk up and down stone stairs in Japanese geta clogs to find the right angles. That single-leg golden-rooster balance pose in the photos might look effortless, but maintaining balance while managing facial expressions and prop orientation was truly no easy task. Behind every photo were repeated adjustments as bone-chilling cold crept up from the ground through my soles. The final horizontal composition of lying on a mossy rock was quite a bold attempt; though slightly out of focus and chilly, it actually fit her untethered, carefree personality surprisingly well.

For this Cosplay night scene, thanks to the photographer's powerful artificial lighting and wide-open aperture, the character and costume details were illuminated perfectly in the dark night. The background cherry blossoms and lights transformed into soft, rounded bokeh spots, creating an immense sense of fantasy. On the journey of cosplay, it's not just about wearing a character's outfit, but re-creating the character within specific scenes and atmospheres. Shivering in the freezing wind made me want to shrink back, but seeing that flash of pink intermingled with night cherry blossoms in the viewfinder made all the waiting and freezing entirely worth it. This shoot made me realize even more that good photos need more than just great styling—the genuine connection between character and environment is what truly touches the heart.
