[Klee Cosplay] Dark Fairytale Adventure of Genshin Impact's Spark Knight

Stepping in front of the set wearing this red, black, and white Klee look, the very first feeling was the visual weight brought by this massive red wide-brimmed hat. It's not only the core of the outfit but also an essential element for composition. The huge hat brim paired with white lace edging instantly maxes out the character's signature traits. As an avid player who frequently plays Genshin Impact, choosing to challenge the character Klee this time was truly a test of my styling skill.

Today's studio set was very special—not the usual grassy field or Mondstadt city style, but deliberately arranged into a dark Gothic style. The black withered vines wrapped with red roses behind me, the Greek column on the left, paper-cut bats suspended in the air, and circular shadow paper pieces scattered on the ground together constructed a magic space full of mystery. The red and yellow prop in my hand, though not a catalyst spellbook, unexpectedly matched the character's lively and slightly mischievous persona under this lighting atmosphere and alongside my poses.

The tailoring of the entire costume was crafted with great care. The combination of a white shirt, black vest, and a large red bowknot makes the upper body look sleek yet adorable. The layered red fabric of the skirt, topped with a white ruffled apron, enhances the layering and fluffiness of the overall silhouette. However, the outfit does have a few points requiring special caution—for instance, the white long socks are extremely easy to get dirty, and while the red straps on the thighs add a visual spotlight, they sit at a sensitive spot, requiring extra care during larger movements during shooting to prevent wardrobe malfunctions. Once slipped into the black Mary Jane shoes and standing before the red backdrop curtain, I felt like I instantly entered the character's state.

During the shooting process, the photographer and I spent a long time discussing light positions and camera angles. Because the hat was so large, using top lighting directly overhead would easily obscure my face under the hat, turning photos into pitch-black silhouettes. Therefore, we chose a slightly side-angled key light combined with rim lighting to outline the contours, letting the shadow of the hat brim fall right onto my shoulders—preserving mystery while ensuring facial features remained clear. Additionally, the holding angle of the prop was crucial; hands couldn't be held up too stiffly in the air, but needed to convey a relaxed "casual holding" vibe to match the character's innocent, romantic, and unconventional personality.

Truthfully, shooting in an outfit featuring a wide skirt, giant hat, along with stockings and leather shoes consumed far more physical stamina than expected. Standing for long periods in hard-soled black leather shoes easily caused sore feet, and while the hat looked gorgeous, it placed a certain burden on my neck. But when you see the collision of colors perfectly presented on the monitor, you feel all the hardship was completely worth it. That hat casts captivating shadows under side lighting, the red of the skirt echoes the deep red of the background, and the white stockings stand out vividly against the dark-toned background—such visual contrast made for a truly wonderful Genshin Impact cosplay experience.

This photoshoot gave me a fresh experience with scene pairing that carries a touch of dramatic tension. The dark red-toned backdrop and the childlike character produced a wonderful chemical reaction. The red-and-black scene combined with the red-and-white outfit made the entire frame look like a fairytale while carrying a touch of gorgeous flair. This unconventional lighting and prop arrangement gave me further inspiration for future studio shoots of other anime characters. Sharing this look serves as a satisfying summary of my preparations over this period; both the overall completeness and the photo results exceeded my expectations.
