[Yae Miko Cosplay] Breeze and Roses, the Pink Romance of a Genshin Impact Character

When I first got this set of images, I suddenly felt that time flies so fast. It feels like a century since the last time I booked a shoot with photographer Master Yufen. This time, the scene was set in a rose garden in full bloom; the wind was light, the sunlight filtered through the cloud layers, and both the temperature and light and shadow were just right. The character being portrayed is Yae Miko from Genshin Impact, and under the complement of pink blossoms and a white skirt hem, this set of hair and makeup seems to carry a few more hints of gentleness than usual.

The most delightful part of cosplaying Yae Miko is managing her long pink hair and golden Vision styling. Although the circular gold ornament on the head and the signature decorations beside the ears heavily test the stability of the wig styling, under the guidance of Master Yufen, I still strove to restore the character's charm as much as possible. The tailoring of the white dress greatly tests the dynamic beauty while walking, and the lace details on the skirt hem look exceptionally premium under the light. This time, a butterfly decoration was specially prepared to tie around the neck, which visually functions as a small highlight that subtly echoes the character setting.

During this shoot, we attempted several different compositions and movements. To align with the character's elegant yet slightly playful setting in Genshin Impact, we captured many moments of natural walking. The bouquet held in my hand was also prepared in advance, making it much more vivid than simply playing with my fingers. Moments of closing my eyes to feel the breeze, lowering my head to look at butterflies, and looking back toward the camera all constituted the short story of this photo set. The photographer, Yufen, is exceptional at capturing this kind of light within flowerbeds, ensuring the subject's skin tone remains bright and translucent even in complex environmental colors.

The retouching process was simply a mix of pain and joy. Because it had been too long since I last handled post-processing, my editing speed slowed down significantly; as expected, skills become rusty if not practiced often. Fortunately, the raw light and shadow foundation of the photos was excellent. To make up for my rusty skills, I directly enhanced the saturation and contrast levels of the frame in post-processing, hoping the final presented effect would carry that sense of transparency and dreaminess. Sometimes, a simple and straightforward color grading solution can rescue an editing hand who isn't in peak condition.

The character of Yae Miko itself possesses a sense of laziness and wisdom that sees through the world, but when portraying this character inside flowerbeds, I preferred to express her inner gentleness and romance. The white of the clothing pairs beautifully with the pink and green of the environment, and the post-processing preserved the authentic botanical tones, achieving a higher integration between the natural environment and the figure. For this type of imagery, there is no need to stack extravagant words; looking at the original images allows one to feel that peaceful atmosphere.

During the preparation stage, combining the white gloves with the white dress actually took a lot of thought. The lace patchwork details on the gloves needed to fit snugly, making it convenient to hold the bouquet while preventing it from looking overly loose on camera. The wig color selected was a very soft cherry-blossom pink, styled without an overly heavy volume to preserve a floating sensation, which became highly photogenic the instant it caught the wind.

Midway through the shoot, the photographer guided me to adjust my center of gravity and hand gestures multiple times, and I realized my hands truly felt empty when not holding props. With the bouquet acting as a medium, the overall body language became natural. I particularly adore those frames holding the bouquet while slightly turning my body to glance back; they carry both the character's composure and an inadvertent laziness from everyday life.

Granted, the in-game Yae Miko from Genshin Impact features plenty of gorgeous elements in her design, such as her signature purple Electro elemental symbols. Limited by costume fabrics and location settings, this outfit feels more like a private attire version of her inside a leisurely afternoon garden. In my view, the meaning of cosplay lies not only in hundred-percent accurate restoration but also in displaying another side of the character through different scenes and lighting configurations.

Having said so much about the character and the shoot, what I truly want to convey is that no matter how long it has been since you last took photos, and regardless of whether your skills have grown rusty, as long as you immerse yourself into the character during the shoot and enjoy the process, the resulting works left behind will carry a soul. This warm and sunny afternoon, the rose garden, and this pink butterfly have all turned into beautiful memories.
