[Ubel cosplay] Frieren: Beyond Journey's End - Outdoor Record of This Glossy Black Leather Skirt Outfit

This set of outdoor photos finally has some loose shots sorted out. Because I've always wanted to take daily life shots of this character, I specifically picked a park with trees and water elements for this outdoor photography session.

Let's talk about the texture of this black leather skirt first. The shoot took place during the mid-to-late afternoon, when the sunlight hitting the fabric would create highly noticeable specular highlights. To suppress the overly intense reflections, the photographer and support staff held up several reflectors next to me to fill in the shadows, which managed to capture the outlines of the skirt hem and leg rings clearly. The collar choker and halter straps were particularly prominent in the sun; because this collar was actually cinched quite tight, sweating during a summer shoot made it easily stick to the skin. The silver metallic patterned sleeve cover and belt buckle on the left, although looking very cool, certainly underwent a lot of weathering treatments for prop details. Since the leather surface itself traps heat easily, combined with the tall boots and leg rings, I needed to slightly tug at my clothes to breathe during every shooting break.

Regarding the wig this time, to recreate this specific hairstyle, about two green wigs were used for the hair bundle processing. The twin-tails on the sides needed to lift the skull top, and a large amount of styling spray was used to ensure it didn't lose its shape in the strong outdoor wind. The bangs on the wig were trimmed to a very clean flat level, which neither blocked the eyes nor made the overall face shape look sharper. For the eye makeup, I specially chose greyish-purple colored contacts, paired with slightly heavy eyeliner and lower eyeshadow, making the gaze look less docile and instead carrying a hint of mockery and playfulness.

The polearm weapon in my hand feels heavier in reality than it looks in photos. The long shaft is made of rigid tubing, and the double-edged metallic paint on the head was applied by hand. The green gem embedded in the middle forms a great echo with the hair color. Although my arms got quite sore after holding it up for a while, for the sake of the presentation effect, I had to grit my teeth, hold on under various tricky angles, and show a confident expression. The reflection of the prop under the slanting sun would turn a bit white, so we had to find good angles during the shoot to avoid overexposure.

The location of this shoot was a woodland trail, with a river visible next to it. The fallen leaves and gravel on the ground, combined with the large tree trunks in the lawn as a background, just happened to suppress the dullness of the glossy black leather clothing. When shooting photo 4, I intentionally leaned against that thick tree trunk and stood the polearm weapon up to use as a leaning tool. This allowed my body to relax a bit and kept my expression from looking too stiff, trying my best to present a loose and natural state.

In terms of action design, I tried my best to integrate the character's original state of being lazy yet possessing a powerful aura. For instance, holding the weapon from behind, slightly tilting the head from the front, to the final shot of leaning against the tree with crossed arms; capturing the natural feel was the focus of this photo set. Actually, during the intervals of each shutter press, I would secretly relax my shoulders, because black leather pants are truly like a steamer in the summer, and the stuffiness makes it hard to maintain perfect concentration for a long time.

Although black reflective materials are difficult to shoot, the slightly chilly pressure of the final prints was indeed on point. The light-dark contrast of the scene and the intervention of natural light recorded all the equipment details this time. The support staff and photographer were very patient this time, constantly adjusting the aperture and positioning to get this set of outdoor loose shots done before sunset. Recording the process of my earnest preparation and photo release feels like completing a self-challenge in anime cosplay and character shaping.
