For this shoot, we chose the Zero Requiem scene of Lelouch and C.C. from Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. The theme is "Sleep, my Demon King, I will stay with you until the end of time"—this concept, paired with a dark-toned backdrop and red roses, created an ideal photographic atmosphere. For the venue, we specifically used a dark backdrop cloth to make the lighting easier to control without visual clutter. The white plush mat was used to soften the bleak solemnity of the black background, evoking a soft, slumbering illusion. As for floral accents, we chose red roses, which bring a distinct gothic elegance.
In terms of makeup, the primary challenges were C.C.'s red contact lenses and cool-toned pale skin. The foundation was applied fairly thin, mainly relying on contouring and shadows to accentuate dimensionality. The red contacts required some adjustment; otherwise, they tended to shift and disrupt the shoot. The wig was long, straight green hair that required immense patience to style, as it easily looked unruly; the luster at the roots and ends played a crucial role in conveying the character's overall aura.
Regarding attire, C.C.'s black outfit features golden ornaments crafted from matte fabric, perfectly suiting this dark theme. Lelouch's costume features wine-red paneled with blue, with a crisp, structured collar that creates a sharp, formal silhouette. My partner and I shared great chemistry; because I had to maintain an overhead, downward-looking angle, this pose demanded significant core strength to hover slightly without pressing down on my partner. The lines of my long legs in White stockings were distinctly contoured by side lighting, which accentuated the character's intrinsic elegance as well.
Throughout the shoot, we adjusted several angles. For the overhead shot used on the cover, the center of gravity rested on the upper body, with the cascading curve of the hair forming a natural frame. Across the entire session, the heavy wig combined with the physical coordination was undeniably tiring, but seeing the results made it all worthwhile. Everyone treated this Lelouch cosplay project with utmost seriousness, making it a truly comprehensive creative experience. The handling of light and shadow was particularly fascinating: the key light was a cool-toned spotlight cast from the side, perfectly tracing edge rim-light along the wig. With the background darkened, the figures seemed to emerge straight out of the shadows—this contrast of light and dark suited C.C.'s elusive mystique impeccably. Lelouch's reclining, eyes-closed demeanor paired with my leaning posture carried an undertone of protection and shared destiny. As for post-processing, I avoided overly flashy color grading, focusing instead on balancing warm and cool tones. Everything went relatively smoothly, making it a memorable shoot. All went according to plan—though the long, straight green wig definitely added an extra workout; the aching back and waist were entirely worth it.
