Shooting Keqing's hall photos at the convention presented its biggest challenge in elevating the atmosphere amidst all the bustling noise. With crowds everywhere in the hall, photographer Wu Gen and I scouted a relatively secluded dark corner, deciding to craft dramatic lighting using the hall's overhead blue spotlights alongside our portable fill lights.

Starting with hair and makeup: to match her stern, resolute temperament, the eye makeup was deepened with violet tones at the outer corners, paired with a moody berry-tinted lip. The wig was a long, wavy light violet-gray; because the venue was breezy and crowded, I used plenty of hairspray before leaving to set the styling at the crown and hold the curl at the tips. Wardrobe-wise, this coordinate is packed with intricate details. The top features an asymmetric black strapless cut spliced with lace along the borders, while the back carries massive wing-like ornaments made of rigid leather and airy sheer fabric. The tiered skirt stacks multiple layers—the outermost in fine-shimmer gradient purple fabric, the middle in translucent mesh, and the base in white lace lining. The outfit is quite heavy to wear, particularly the back structures, which require snug strapping across the shoulders and waist.

Black Stockings and thigh straps also formed an essential part of the silhouette. To accentuate leg lines, I wore black high heels with straps cinched right above the ankles, creating an elongating visual effect. The prop sword in hand features a glowing purple-red painted blade, which produced a striking contrast against the ambient blue light in the dark.

Regarding pose design, convention hall photos differ from studio sessions—they require more dynamic motion to mask the cluttered background. For the first shot, I chose a single-leg stance, leaning forward with one arm outstretched while the left hand held the sword resting naturally downward. This pose demanded substantial core stability because high heels can be wobbly, yet I had to keep an upright torso and a cool, collected expression. The black bracers and chest lace details read wonderfully from this angle. The second side-profile stance holding the sword was designed to showcase the back ornaments and hair movement while using the extended line of the sword to guide the viewer's eye. The third shot dialed things back slightly; the raised-leg pose exposed the thigh straps and black Stockings, with hands simulating spellcasting while the gaze channeled a detached, commanding cool. The final hair-flip snapshot took the most time of the entire shoot—Wu Gen kept adjusting the angle of the light source to carve out a sharp rim light along the hair strands while keeping the sword crisp without motion blur.

Shooting in low-light environments is a rigorous test of camera gear and photographic skill. Wu Gen utilized blue-violet RGB lights to project rim lighting from the rear-side angle, which not only separated me cleanly from the murky background, but also traced a cool luminescent edge along the costume borders and wig fibers. To ensure proper facial exposure, a softbox was set up in front. This lighting scheme was sophisticated—preserving the raw convention atmosphere while highlighting the rich textures of the character.

This hall shoot was a dual test of stamina and expressiveness. Running back and forth in heels and a voluminous skirt to strike poses was exhausting, but seeing the seamless fusion of light, shadow, and fabric textures in the final frames made every bit of fatigue worthwhile. The magic of convention photography lies precisely in sculpting definitive beauty out of an unpredictable environment.
