The entire scene centered around a massive artificial ancient tree, where gnarled dark-brown branches and dense cherry blossoms created a striking visual contrast. Standing where the tree roots extended, the photographer used high-angle side lighting to illuminate the character and cherry blossoms while darkening the background, giving the petals scattered across the wooden floor rich depth in this Cherry blossom tree photoshoot.
This time, I wore a blue-and-white dress leaning into traditional styling for this Yae Xiao cosplay. The halter off-shoulder cut on the upper body elongated neck lines nicely; white fabric paired with teal cloud-patterned piping, accented by a golden hair crown and earrings, produced delicate specular glints in dim lighting. The blue-cyan forehead mark also brightened the center of the face. The matching cyan polearm prop served as an essential visual extension in the frame.
To convey the character's languid temperament, I chose a semi-reclined pose leaning against the tree trunk, crossing one leg to showcase details of the legs and footwear. The half-body close-up adopted a slightly upright, three-quarter posture, holding the prop horizontally with both hands while gazing straight into the lens, projecting a cooler, composed demeanor. The biggest challenge during shooting was controlling the prop's position to avoid obscuring intricate garment textures, while timing the shutter to capture falling petals.
In terms of color harmony, the pastel pink-and-white cherry blossoms, dark-brown trees, deep-toned wooden flooring, and my white-blue-cyan palette formed a harmonious color scheme. In post-production, the photographer preserved this natural light-and-dark contrast without over-brightening the shadows, focusing the light on the character and blooming blossoms. Having seen many other works shot here beforehand, the physical set truly added an immersive presence that studio photography alone could never match.
For friends who love traditional or Eastern fantasy photography, this scene is genuinely perfect for creating stunning photos. Capturing the dynamic motion of falling petals and experimenting with diverse camera angles produced a rich variety of compositions from a single shoot. From the languor of leaning on the trunk to the poised intensity of holding the long polearm, shifting postures prevented the final set from looking monotonous.
