The lively atmosphere inside the convention hall compared to the icy chill near the vents was truly a double test of stamina and willpower. Shooting these convention photos at ijoy was quite a hardcore challenge. Despite the clear skies promised in the forecast, the draft blowing through the hall was relentless, freezing me into a literal 'frozen Lavender Melon.' Still, as a convention regular, I'm well used to such conditions. To get ready for this photoshoot, I woke up at 5:00 AM for makeup and hair styling—spending nearly an hour on eye makeup alone, hoping to capture the character's aloof and frosty demeanor through smooth eyeshadow blending and deep eyeliner. To survive this Anime-style fashion, I even stuck hand warmers onto my thermal base layer; otherwise, standing in the cold draft for hours would have been impossible.
Looking back at the styling and makeup, there are plenty of interesting details to highlight. The most eye-catching features on camera were definitely the black leather crisscross straps overlapping across the chest, which boasted excellent texture and a subtle leather sheen under sunlight. Paired with metallic pendants and blue transparent gems, the ensemble delivered a heavy-duty, premium feel with top-notch hardness and clarity. As I walked, the gems gently swayed with my movements, creating a dynamic play of light and shadow. The rigid white shoulder guards, edged with blue velvet trim, broadened the shoulder line to make the silhouette more poised while softening the sharp edge of the chest straps, adding a touch of sacred grace. The silver-white gradient wig was custom-trimmed in layered strands with thinned bangs gently framing my forehead—enhancing facial features while keeping my vision clear during casual cosplay walks around the hall. To ensure effortless movement in this setup, I also adjusted the belt position so it wouldn't look bulky when bending or turning.
On the day of the event, the hall was packed with voices and buzzing energy, but stepping toward the glass doors outside immediately brought a rush of freezing air. Under such extreme temperature shifts, applying cool color tones in post-processing actually suited the character's icy vibe perfectly. The shooting environment was tougher than expected; being near the entrance meant constant passersby entering the frame, so we had to seize brief gaps, utilizing side-backlight from the window to illuminate the rim light along my hair for a clear, translucent texture. The photographer was extremely patient, repeatedly tweaking angles to avoid harsh direct glare and reflections, helping me find my best state before the camera. Although my body was stiff from the cold and my facial muscles felt almost too frozen to smile, seeing the preview shots and catching that sharp focus in my eyes made every bit of effort worth it.
In truth, restoring a character goes far beyond simply wearing the costume and wig—it's about embodying her aura and presence. An outfit packed with such powerful design naturally projects a protective distance and strength, so on site I didn't force sweet smiles, but instead maintained a relaxed, slightly inclined posture, conveying emotion through my eyes. Meeting fellow fans who recognized this look at the convention was incredibly rewarding. Hearing onlookers whisper 'The accuracy is so high!' or 'Those straps are designed so well!' brought an indescribable sense of fulfillment. Behind every carefully crafted outfit lies immense dedication from the cosplayer, makeup artist, and photographer.
During the shoot, natural sunlight from the window happened to shine through the transparent gems, refracting a gorgeous halo—an unexpected surprise difficult to replicate with artificial lights, serving as a sweet reward for holding out in the cold wind. Looking at these finished convention photos reminds me of the high heels on my feet that day; after standing all day, my feet were completely sore. Yet after every completed set, the relief of taking off heavy armor coupled with the thrill of seeing stunning photos instantly washes away all fatigue. To me, the joy of conventions and casual cosplay lies in stepping out of daily routines for a brief moment to experience that cool, fantastic vibe of the anime world. For the passion we share, braving the cold is completely worth it. The staff and fellow fans at this convention were all amazing, and the atmosphere was electric. Though it was a bit of an ordeal, the light and shadow captured today are moments I will forever treasure.
