This photoshoot was entirely dedicated to recreating Niko from Genshin Impact. The feeling of owning Max constellations is very special, which naturally boosted my confidence when doing this Niko cosplay. Holding the phone during the shoot was actually to showcase the authentic player record of Max constellations; bringing that in-game interface screenshot into the frame gave a real sense of breaking the fourth wall.
Makeup was where the greatest effort was spent. The Elf ears required meticulous gluing to keep the edges from lifting. For contacts, I chose large-diameter starry blue ones, which, paired with brightening blush, made my gaze look exceptionally dewy and vivid. The red star mark on my forehead had to be drawn three times to ensure it wouldn't reflect glare or look transparent under lights. The eyeliner was intentionally winged and elongated, with individual cluster false lashes placed along the roots to enlarge the eyes naturally. A hydrating dusty rose lipstick was chosen, which looked stunning in close-ups.
The outfit features rich layering, requiring both inner and outer garments to be meticulously styled. In particular, the center of the chest bow features an orange teardrop gem that has substantial weight, catching the sunlight with gorgeous brilliance. The hat is made of a holographic reflective material that refracts different hues under changing lighting angles; to anchor it atop my head, several bobby pins were hidden at various angles within the wig, requiring readjustment whenever it tilted between takes to keep its optimal shape.
For nails, I wore long extensions accented with crushed rhinestones, curving around the phone to accentuate slender hand lines. The color palette revolves around cool blue and white tones, which, paired with the Elf ears in outdoor lighting, made my skin look porcelain fair. Both wide and close-up poses were calibrated to utilize lighting and subtle body tilts for added dimensional depth. The bust close-up in Photo 2 faithfully captured the character's gaze and expression—pure with a touch of tsundere and playfulness, conveying the confidence of a Max constellations player.
Preparing for this Genshin Impact Niko cosplay was far more intricate than expected—from parting the wig and ironing garments to securing props, every micro-detail was vital in shaping the character. As a player and cosplayer, bringing a Max constellations character to life and conversing with her across the camera was a unique experience. The entire shoot was set against a floral backdrop, where soft natural light flattered the Elf ears and holographic textures seamlessly.
Regarding detailed techniques: blending foundation over the edges of the Elf ears helped them merge seamlessly with my facial skin; curtain bangs were styled to frame the face without blocking line of sight; and the crown of the wig was teased for dimensional volume. To match the dreamy, fresh theme of Max constellations, I stayed up late multiple times fine-tuning garment fit, such as the shape of the collar cutout and smooth zipper movement.
The shoot lasted an entire afternoon, progressing from harsh midday light to golden sunset rays. As the light shifted, the holographic reflections on the hat transformed, lending distinct textures to the final images—a delightful surprise. I even brought a mini fan to test the wig's movement in the breeze, finding that subtle stray strands added natural flow. All these refined touches converged into a complete presentation. Every tension before shooting and communication during the session was aimed at perfectly replicating the ideal Max constellations Niko from my mind. To bring out the depth of the deep blue eyes and Elf ears in close-ups, I repeatedly adjusted camera angles to capture the perfect moment.
Niko in Genshin Impact inherently possesses a dreamy, mysterious aura, and achieving Max constellations with her enhanced skill effects and voice lines provided immense satisfaction. This in-game emotion naturally extended into preparing the cosplay. When prepping the costume, I referenced extensive materials to achieve higher standards in color fidelity and fabric textures. Displaying the phone screen in Photo 1 was a highlight—not only documenting the Max constellations achievement, but also serving as a grounded prop that added realism, complete with a phone case matching the character's aesthetic.
Photo 2 is a facial close-up, demanding extreme base makeup longevity through over an hour of shooting while preserving the red forehead mark intact. Applying individual lashes one by one and utilizing oil-control base products with a luminous finish, along with targeted highlighters on the nose tip and cheekbones, made facial features appear refined and soft. The translucent colored contacts made the eyes pop strikingly on camera. I strongly recommend cool-toned fair foundation to harmonize with blue-and-white costumes.
After applying makeup, I practiced expressions in the mirror for a long time, since the weight of the Elf ears and wig required conscious angle control when turning my head. To balance the hat's proportions, I opted for asymmetrical compositions to display the headpiece fully. Through this deep recreation, I gained an even deeper appreciation for why this character captures so much love. Summarizing the importance of fine-tuning details—such as the gold collar trim and bow pleats—bringing such a high-fidelity work to life brought immense fulfillment. From concept to finished photos, this dedication and immersion was my sincerest tribute to the character.
