Today's shooting schedule at the Shenyang Northern Comic Convention was packed to the brim—capturing 68 cuts in four hours. From changing costumes and touching up makeup to adjusting poses, the entire process felt like a battlefield. I prepared several looks in completely different styles this time, each requiring immense energy and stamina to pull off for these Convention photos.
First, let's talk about this armored dress ensemble woven in blue and gold. To fit the fantasy elf concept, I custom-ordered these massive translucent butterfly-shaped Elf wings as props. Under the venue's ceiling lights, the material of the wings cast pearlescent refractions, yet they carried substantial weight, making center-of-gravity control quite a challenge while standing. To accentuate the silhouette of this outfit, I continuously adjusted my neck, shoulder, and leg postures; the one-legged pose was shot repeatedly before achieving the desired effect. In makeup, pairing the purple wig with pointed ear prosthetics, I deliberately deepened the eye contours so the makeup wouldn't be washed out under harsh lighting.
The on-site lighting environment was complex, alternating between overhead exhibition hall lights and the photographers' fill lights, demanding a rapid shift into character. The other outfits were equally demanding. For instance, the blue-and-black leather combat suit had form-fitting fabric that heavily restricted movement, yet striking combat stances with props instantly unleashed a sharp, fierce edge. Then there was the starry miniskirt featuring purple argyle Stockings cosplay paired with platform Martin boots, showcasing a completely different vivacious energy. The Gothic-style pink-haired look was another creative venture, channeling mystery through lace and devil horn elements.
The shooting environment at a convention is often rife with variables—dense crowds and cluttered backgrounds mean photographers must rely on wide apertures and deliberate angles to isolate the subject for Convention photos. As a cosplayer, one must not only remember the costume's intricate details, but also adapt facial expressions and body language based on lens focal lengths. For instance, full-body shots require broader, more dramatic gestures, whereas medium close-ups demand nuanced emotional conveyance through the eyes in this cosplay performance.
After four grueling hours, though physically exhausted, seeing the captured frames inside the camera made every bit of dedication deeply rewarding. Every convention is not just about producing Convention photos, but serves as an intensive trial of character comprehension and expressive versatility. From styling and maintaining wigs to positioning accessories and handling wardrobe malfunctions on the fly, everything tests professional dedication. This high-intensity shoot made me appreciate even more that presenting one's best self before the lens requires both meticulous pre-production and swift adaptability on site.
