Here's a look at the studio shooting process and details behind this blue and white light veil themed photoshoot.
The most defining feature of this outfit is the hooded cape with decorated edges and the asymmetrical cut at the waist. The fabric consists mainly of lightweight sheer veil, with the trailing ribbons behind fluttering into natural wave-like patterns under the breeze of a fan. The color palette combines pure, bright white with a deep blue, giving the overall visual a cool, aloof feel without being too heavy. Thin chains are wrapped around the arms, and the pendant on the neck echoes the overall color scheme.
I chose a light blue wig with fine and soft hair fibers that goes perfectly with this flowing garment. The makeup features a sheer, natural base, keeping the eye makeup minimal with simple contouring and natural false eyelashes for a clean, translucent look overall.
I absolutely loved the studio set for this shoot. The venue was built with white Roman pillars and a classic angel statue, surrounded by blue and white artificial flowers and green leaves, accented with crystal candlesticks and gold geometric wireframes. A deep blue carpet covered the floor, leading to a set of stairs. From above, deep and light blue fabric drapes created a sense of depth like a palace or temple. The entire setting's theme was a cool blue and white, and combined with the lighting and dreamy backdrop, the on-set atmosphere was fully maximized.
The camera used a wide aperture to highlight the subject and blur out the background. For lighting, we primarily used a cool-toned key light shining on me to make my skin look translucent and fair. The crystal candlestick on the left glowed with a warm light, creating a touch of color contrast in the cool environment. For photo 4, we used a top-down angle where I lay on the floor to capture a mirror reflection effect, which, along with the blue butterfly decorations, created the illusion of floating on water.
The seated pose in image 1 required careful adjustment of the hips and legs to elongate the body lines, while raising my hands high to showcase the layering of the outfit. The single-leg raise in images 2 and 3 demanded great balance—I had to remain stable while controlling the direction of the cape's flutter, coordinating with the fan's rhythm to capture that split-second moment where the skirt flies naturally.
I specifically chose white strappy open-toe high-heeled sandals for this outfit. These shoes pull up the visual center of gravity beautifully, echoing the weightless look of the costume. Not only did they make posing easier, but they also enriched the details of my feet in the frame.
Honestly, although the garment is light and airy, standing in high heels for a long time during the shoot and repeatedly doing high-leg raises and spins was incredibly exhausting. But seeing the final results, all the hard work felt entirely worth it. There were many props around, so I had to move carefully to avoid snagging the sheer fabric of the dress.
The overall styling this time leaned toward a cool, ethereal look, featuring clean lines and pure colors without overly complex decorations. I feel part of the fun of cosplay lies right here—turning a 2D character or conceptual sketch into real, living images.
Trying different styles and shooting techniques always yields unique surprises. For the next shoot, I plan to switch to a different style to see if I can explore more possibilities and capture more interesting photos.
