[Cheshire Cosplay & Formidable Cosplay] Azur Lane Royal Maid Themed Photography

Dressed in a black-and-white custom maid outfit, paired with matching headwear and props, I completed this role-playing shoot of Cheshire and Formidable from Azur Lane together with another fellow cosplayer. The location for this shoot was chosen at the Bi An Yue Zhang Photography Studio. The studio was arranged with a wide European vintage sofa and a large amount of white and purple artificial floral art, providing an excellent mansion-interior tone for the photos.

Regarding the costumes, the Cheshire outfit featured very distinct cat ears and a bell collar element, with rich layering in the white lace and black skirt hem. On the other hand, Formidable's outfit style leaned towards magnificent, featuring a black-and-white color clash along with a bow headpiece on top. The abundance of lace trim details placed a high demand on the photographer's lighting setup.

For the first dual photo, we chose to position ourselves on a wide white tufted sofa, utilizing soft diffuse reflection light to recreate the highlights and textures of the character designs as closely as possible, making the overall composition centered and balanced. To highlight the different styling characteristics of the two characters, the second image also experimented with a well-structured foreground-background composition, using bokeh to blur the character in the back, allowing the foreground figure to present a more languid and confident state on the carpet covered with vintage patterns.

Since it was a dual shoot with both of us in the frame at the same time, the requirement for coordination of movements on set was much higher than in a solo shoot, requiring us to mutually cooperate on the placement angles of our arms and the landing points of our centers of gravity. Although various floral materials and props were stacked in the vintage set, we put quite some effort into adjusting our positions to keep the frame clean and tidy in front of the lens. This set of works pursues a dreamy and elegant maid atmosphere. Under the appropriate combination of lens focal length and flash, the texture of the final cuts looks both exquisite and vivid, making it a highly enjoyable and accurately recreated maid outfit cosplay experience.
