[Ling Cosplay] Azure Dragon Soars Through Clouds, Poetic Poise

Among the many characters in Arknights, Ling's free-spiritedness and independence have always deeply attracted me. To present her unique scholarly temperament and the artistic realm of being accompanied by a divine beast, I chose this iconic blue-and-white Chinese-style fantasy attire, paired with high-heeled platform shoes and thigh strap designs to elongate the overall body line. The outfit fabrics feature light tulle with great drape and matte materials; the color-blocking of white, blue, and yellow combined with black shorts creates a light, ethereal feel without looking visually heavy. The dragon horns and wig on the head are key to character fidelity—the blue gradient long hair with red highlights serves as a highly recognizable visual anchor for Ling.

Pointed ear props need to be hidden among hair strands, and the wig's layering requires careful combing to fit the face shape. For makeup, I deliberately toned down heavy eyeshadow, instead emphasizing the cool, heroic spirit in her brows and eyes, paired with pink-toned lip makeup, striving to recreate her trait of seeming distant on the outside while rich on the inside.

As for props, the yellow lantern and the staff resembling withered wood heavily tested balance during actual shooting. Particularly for the lantern, finding the right angle for its weight and center of gravity was necessary to lift it effortlessly. However, these aged textures and archaic patterns truly added a lot of color to the frame.

The set design on the shooting day was extremely thoughtful, featuring a massive white dragon prop and translucent lotus flowers, combined with cool white ambient light to create a dreamlike Chinese-style fantasy atmosphere. The photographer was very professional with light and shadow; backlighting rim light outlined the character's silhouette, giving the image richer layering. I tried several different postures in this photo set—standing before the desk holding the staff looking into the distance, sitting languidly on a wooden chair interacting with the lotus, and resting long legs up to show the character's carefree and untamed side. One composition where I sat on the wooden desk, left leg lifted on the stool, right hand gently touching the ear hair ornament, and left hand resting on the staff, felt especially capable of embodying her easygoing attitude of "I have been in my own company for so long, I'd rather just be myself."

Actually, every time I do a photoshoot with complex props and sets, hair/makeup styling and hauling equipment are significant tests. But when you truly step into such a meticulously built environment, the feeling of the character naturally wells up. In this shoot, we also utilized the reflective floor to capture water-like reflection effects, enhancing the spatial feel of the frame. Regarding color presentation, because the clothing has multiple layers, it can easily look bulky outdoors or under messy indoor light. However, the photographer's lighting scheme solved this problem nicely: pairing key side light with backlighting brought out the texture of the white outer robe without losing the vibrant blue undergarments.

As a player who frequently tries different styles in Anime-style photography, I feel the most important part of interpreting this character is capturing her ease of "dancing with all things." There's no need to force poses; naturally flowing gaze and body language are more than enough. Post-processing for this set wasn't over-retouched, retaining plenty of light-and-shadow texture and detailed strands of hair, which is something I really love about it.

During the shooting process, stepping on the wooden desk and feeling the warmth of the props and the fine craftsmanship of the set made me immerse myself deeper into this Cosplay photography shoot. Putting on each garment, adjusting every strap and accessory is a step-by-step process of drawing closer to the character. This sense of immersion is why I remain passionate about cosplay. Regarding her serene detachment from worldly noise, I believe it relies more on expression than attire. Thus, during shooting breaks, I tried not to overthink, fully immersing myself in that state of composing poetry, sipping wine, and accompanying dragons.

We spent a lot of time adjusting camera angles for this shoot. To match the massive scale of the white dragon, the photographer needed to stand at specific heights and angles to capture the imposing pressure of the floating dragon head while showcasing the character's delicate integration on the desk. Coordinating props, the sway of clothing fabric, and capturing expressions required immense energy from us. But seeing the final photos, with the cool color tones and warm lantern light reflecting off each other, made every bit of effort feel worthwhile. This set captured many satisfying moments in this Ling cosplay showcase, and I hope everyone can feel the atmosphere as well.
