During the preparation stage of this Reimu Hakurei Cosplay, great emphasis was placed on matching the costume with the scenery. The outfit itself adopts a Wa-lolita design with strong layering: the outermost layer features a red-and-black plaid fabric paired with traditional Japanese patterns. The giant gold bow and frog-button ornament at the waist serve as the soul of the outfit, instantly catching the eye. The ruffles on the skirt hem and lining are lush; to maintain a flawless silhouette, I deliberately wore an oversized petticoat, which, despite making movement somewhat clumsy, delivered an outstanding effect in the photos.
Because this setting features the classic Touhou Project character, I styled the hair in twin tails adorned with red bows. The wig is long and straight, requiring extra patience to groom—especially the red ribbon hair ornaments on both sides, which needed repeated angle adjustments to capture the character's nimble, spirited charm. For footwear, chunky-heeled platform geta clogs were chosen; although far heavier than everyday shoes, they are indispensable for character accuracy. In terms of details, I also wore white thigh-high socks for this White tights cosplay, an addition that effectively elongated leg lines while adding distinct clarity to the overall red-and-white color palette.
Choosing an old log cabin for this Log cabin photography shoot was primarily to take advantage of the vintage environment and natural light. The sunlight was fantastic on the day of the shoot, casting slanted rays from the left porch onto the dark wooden floor to create sharp chiaroscuro and dappled shadows. This natural light was ideal for bringing out fabric textures, especially the light refraction of the red plaid cloth. Sitting atop a wooden barrel with a woven round fan beside me, a large bunch of reeds on the cabinet to my right, and colorful ribbons on the floor, it created a storytelling Japanese vintage atmosphere.
During shooting, because of the voluminous skirt, adjusting sitting and standing poses had to be done slowly, letting the garment folds drape naturally along the leg contours. In movements like turning back in profile or touching the neckline, gaze direction required careful focus to create an interactive connection with the lens. The intricate details of this red-and-white shrine maiden outfit—from the lace neckline to the layered hem—demanded careful smoothing before every shot to avoid looking messy. Throughout the entire shoot, although wearing heavy clothing and clogs was exhausting, the final results left me deeply satisfied, allowing me to genuinely experience the unique charm blending aloof stillness and lively grace in this character.
