Today the weather is gloomy with low air pressure, which is really suitable for curling up at home and sleeping. However, for this park exterior shoot, I still got up early to prepare my makeup and styling. This time I am cosplaying Takanashi Hoshino from Blue Archive.
Let's talk about the preparation work first. The pink wig needs careful trimming and styling, and the pink halo prop on top of the head is handmade using fine iron wire and acrylic boards. To make it visually present a floating sense, the fixing method took a long time to figure out. In terms of makeup, I focused on deepening the blending of eyeshadow and the base of the blush, paired with light blue circle lenses to try my best to get close to that translucent feel of 2D characters. The costume is a white-based dress with blue ribbons decorated at the collar and chest, and the sleeves are translucent puffy lantern sleeves, with a very long veil dragging on the ground with a strong sense of layering. The lower body is paired with white tights and white high heels.
Shooting park exteriors wearing white tights actually tests the lighting a lot. If shot at noon on a sunny day, it is easy to over-reflect, making the legs lack texture. On today's overcast day, the diffuse light is very soft, which is just right for showing the texture and gloss of the tights. The location was chosen next to the park path, where there is just a large patch of blooming hydrangeas, with purple-blue and light pink intertwined, and the ground covered with reddish-brown paving bricks and scattered golden fallen leaves, making the color matching extremely rich.
To fit the lazy and quiet temperament of the original character, I chose to sit on the ground for shooting. The bricks are actually a bit hard, but to ensure that the body lines in the frame are relaxed enough, I tried not to tense my muscles. Sometimes raising one hand high to stretch, sometimes crossing both hands to support the chin, or curling up the legs. In front of the lens, I didn't deliberately perform exaggerated expressions, but tried to blank out my gaze, finding a state of being half-asleep and half-awake. The high heels were taken off to the side, my feet were naturally relaxed, and the leg lines appeared smoother wrapped in the tights.
This shoot did not use complex fill-light equipment, relying mainly on changes in natural light. We deliberately waited until the darkest period of light in the evening, and that slightly cool-toned greenery and soft atmosphere were just the visual language I wanted to express. From the early preparation of costumes and props, to finding angles and adjusting states on site little by little, and then enduring the test of ground temperature, the whole process was actually not easy. But being able to restore the picture in my mind bit by bit makes everything feel worthwhile.
