For this Touhou Project Marisa Kirisame cosplay shoot, a great deal of layered detail was added to the costume. The witch hat was the absolute star of the show: multiple tiers of white lace were sewn around the outer brim of the black hat, each trimmed with golden embroidery, with complex inner structural support to hold up the wide brim. At the tip of the hat sits the iconic bent black point with a small pendant dangling below, which I deliberately toyed with during the shoot to bring a sense of lively charm to the frames. Because the hat was so large, wearing it for extended periods made my neck sore, so I frequently had to support the brim with my hand while posing.
For the wig, I selected vibrant golden-blonde long wavy hair with blunt bangs and voluminous curls on both sides. Managing it was quite laborious, as the long curls easily snagged on the lace along the hat's brim, requiring me to carefully comb through the locks between every pose transition. In makeup, the eye makeup was applied with extra definition to make my gaze pop under the high-key white studio lighting, complemented by a pale, porcelain base and a gentle wash of pink blush on the cheeks.
The outfit itself has immense dimensional layering. The top features a white lace-trimmed bodice with a ribbon tie centered around a blue jewel at the neckline. The waist is cinched with a brown leather corset underbust and a crossbody belt, with a high-quality small brown leather pouch hanging from the side that conveniently held small touch-up items. The skirt is a heavily voluminous Lolita style: the outer shell is crafted from black fabric patterned with golden stars, draped over multiple tiers of white lace petticoats that fan out naturally whenever I sat down or turned. On my legs, I wore over-the-knee Black stockings paired with black garter straps, complemented by black platform shoes with silver metallic buckles; these shoes not only elongated leg proportions, but also grounded the visual weight of the extravagant skirt. On my hands were short black gloves, a staple accessory of her design in this Witch cosplay.
The shoot was primarily completed in a pure white studio, where bright, high-key lighting rendered the lace textures and gold embroidery on the costume crystal clear. For the Drawing reference aspect, I experimented with several different poses. For instance, leaning forward while holding the hat brim with one hand showcases the wide hat's silhouette alongside the side layers of the skirt. Another pose was sitting with one knee bent up, allowing the voluminous skirt to pool into gorgeous cascading folds while highlighting leg contours and the garter belt details over the Black stockings. A frontal shot lifting the brim with both hands and slightly tilting my head back provided an intuitive display of overall costume proportions. Throughout the shoot, I made sure to angle my body slightly away from a dead-on frontal stance to avoid stiffness, using hand gestures to interact with the hat, skirt, or waist pouch. This brought dynamic tension to the photos while providing clear anatomical and structural Drawing reference for artist friends. Dressing and undressing this elaborate Witch cosplay ensemble was intricate—especially adjusting the back zippers and belts—demanding ample time beforehand. The finished photos achieved my exact vision, comprehensively capturing the fabric textures and nuanced pose details for this Touhou Project Marisa Kirisame cosplay.
