This C.C. styling was a challenge demanding high fidelity, and it turned out to be a set I am personally extremely satisfied with. Vivid long green hair paired with red irises and the red sigil on the forehead, coordinated with attire dominated by deep blue and black, accented with a red belt, white shorts, and white tall boots—the overall color contrast and tailoring are distinctively unique. Pre-shoot hair and makeup took considerable time, particularly detangling and styling the long green wig and tuning the intensity of the red eye makeup. To imbue my gaze with that aloof disdain tinged with the solitary essence of a Witch, I practiced my expressions and demeanor in front of the mirror for hours.
The shooting venue was set in a Dark Gothic style vintage space, complete with ornate carved red velvet chairs, dark red velvet backdrops, and intricate drapery, maxing out the moody ambiance. Props were prepared thoroughly as well: a crystal-clear skull, red wine in a goblet, red grapes, and central elements like a chess set and the helmet of The Black Knights. These props were laden with metaphor, perfectly aligning with the character's elegant yet death-tinged premise.
Interacting with the props during the shoot was quite engaging, requiring adjustments in motion to harmonize with them. For example, looking back over my shoulder while seated on the red velvet chair—striving to convey that dismissive, subtly provocative edge—required multiple attempts to calibrate the shoulder angle and tilt of my chin. The shot holding grapes required holding an awkward seated posture in front of the dark-toned table to complement the hand positioning. Meanwhile, lifting the wine glass while gazing at the chessboard called for silently channeling the mindset of a master player in complete control, as if facing not merely a game of chess, but a monumental clash of wits.
In terms of posing, I opted for side-lying and half-prone compositions. For instance, in the shot brushing my hair back, the photographer utilized foreground elements and depth of field to focus visual attention on my face and legs. The combination of white boots and shorts, paired with a slightly languid composition, was ideal for showcasing the character's timeless sensuality and detachment refined through centuries. In this setting, to complement the white blossoms and vintage candelabras, every detail across costume, makeup, and props was treated with subtle precision. The throne and skull forged a powerful contrast, both mysterious and perilous.
We encountered challenges along the way; for example, the white tall boots offered poor traction and support when kneeling and pivoting, making it easy to slip, which forced me to readjust my weight distribution several times. Furthermore, in the low-light environment, capturing that faint gleam brushing across the cheek required holding still for extended periods. Though physically exhausting, seeing the rich texture of light and shadow in the raw photos made every bit of effort worthwhile.
The overall visuals possess both the painterly texture of classical oil paintings and Dark Gothic style aesthetics. When conceptualizing this photoshoot, the character's iconic line regarding the power of kings continually echoed in my mind. That royal solitude, intertwined with an irreplaceable attachment to a certain someone, is precisely what makes this character so captivating. Through this C.C. cosplay photography project, I hope to convey the enigmatic aura of The Black Knights and the Witch's solitary pride as faithfully as possible to fellow fans of ACG culture.
