Today's white-studio session was focused entirely on Kasugano Sora's Gymnastics uniform and volleyball concept from Yosuga no Sora.
Starting with the styling: the wig was a long platinum-blonde set of twintails with abundant volume. To keep it fluffy and airy, I prepped the bangs with styling wax beforehand. Positioning the black hair ribbons high up was essential to bring out an energetic, youthful charm. The outfit featured the classic white short-sleeve athletic shirt trimmed in navy blue along the crewneck and cuffs, paired with navy athletic shorts. Over-the-knee White stockings and glossy black Mary Jane shoes served as the signature lower-half combination; when wearing them, keeping the sock openings completely smooth was crucial so they wouldn't pinch the skin or create unflattering lines before the camera. For makeup, I stayed faithful to the character by accentuating the under-eye blush and aegyosal contours with natural falsies, keeping the skin base luminous and translucent.
Our interactive prop was a blue, yellow, and white volleyball. To craft an authentic, relaxed state, we mapped out multiple posing sequences. When tossing the ball while standing, extending the arms cleanly and tracking the ball with my gaze as it hovered mid-air captured kinetic action, which required tight coordination with the photographer while holding an unforced, gentle smile without straining. For the seated setups, a white cylindrical plinth was brought in; crossing my legs naturally elongated the leg contours. One frame captured me gently lifting the hem of the shirt with both hands—a pose meant to break away from conventional sports framing, introducing visual layers and accentuating the waistline while carefully balancing fabric creases and light-shadow gradients across the torso.
The greatest challenge of an all-white studio is preventing overexposure while retaining structural contrast. The lighting technician used a key light diffused with softboxes, complemented by reflectors to lift shadows under the chin and along the legs, ensuring porcelain skin tones remained luminous in high-key frames. The set was pristine, needing only subtle brightness lifts in post-production to evoke a vibrant summer mood. Because the hair was so long, tidying stray locks between takes was vital to prevent them from obscuring facial features or looking overly heavy during active poses.
Throughout the shoot, I continuously fine-tuned my expression and physical energy. Although a Gymnastics uniform appears minimalist, blending kinetic sportiness with Sora's delicate temperament requires careful calibration of movement. Cradling the volleyball while leaning forward created an inviting, conversational mood; sitting tall with an upright spine highlighted posture. Wrapping the shoot, I felt deeply attuned to this athletic look—the synergy of White stockings and volleyball captured athletic vigor while honoring the character's signature poise. It was a thoroughly enriching studio shoot that deepened my grasp of lighting control.
