Zhanjiang convention photo production: this time the shoot was set in a local large-scale steel-structure dome exhibition hall. The intricate metal trusses inside the building and the large-area skylight windows at the top provided a natural massive softbox effect for the photos, with even and cool-toned lighting, highly suitable for displaying the textures of the white dress and silver-white wig. As a cosplayer, regarding the costume, makeup, and props, I focused on replicating the character's iconic features, including the long straight silver hair, the large white bow on the side of the head, the layered white ruffled dress, and the core prop—the black long-eared rabbit plushie.
Regarding the detailed handling of the outfit, this white dress features highly rich design layers, with delicate ruffles and lacing at the neckline, and wide-profile sleeves. Combined with the multi-layered skirt hem, the overall styling remains full while avoiding a bloated look. To echo the color of the black rabbit prop, I chose black glossy platform Mary Jane shoes paired with pure white mid-calf slouch socks. This sharply contrasted black and white shoe-and-sock combination, with its exaggerated proportions, looks very crisp against the grayish-white concrete floor and dark steel frame background, and effectively enhances the visual extension of the legs.
On the day of the shoot, the photography master and I cooperated with great chemistry. Since the venue was extremely vast, the use of a wide-angle lens made the character appear petite and delicate in the frame. We experimented with multiple perspectives and movements. Among them, I was particularly satisfied with the compositions of sitting on the ground; extending the leg lines through different sitting postures allowed the white socks and black shoes to become one of the visual centers at the bottom of the frame. Clutching the black rabbit tightly, lifting the black rabbit with one hand, or resting my chin in my hand alone with the black rabbit placed by my leg—all of these were to present a quiet, ethereal, and slightly lonely atmosphere.
In terms of controlling facial expressions and makeup, I used red colored contacts matching the character, paired with a clean and translucent base makeup, striving to showcase the character's cold, aloof, and pure temperament. The movements should not be too broad or dynamic; even when reaching out to grasp toward the camera, the curvature of the wrist needed to be controlled within a soft range. These tiny physical details are key to deciding whether a set of Cosplay prints feels faithful and charming.
Under this scenario in the Zhanjiang exhibition hall, the diffused reflection of the ambient light was highly ideal. The shadows were soft, so there was no need to worry about unsightly harsh shadows on the face. In post-production, we only performed basic adjustments to skin translucency without excessive processing, so as to preserve that clean, clear, and cool-toned texture brought by the on-site lighting. The venue's own structural lines were very rich; acting as a background in full-body shots, they could beautifully set off the slender figure of the character. This shoot was not only a role-play but also my practical exploration of styling, scene arrangement, and physical expressiveness.
For the combination of thick-soled black shoes and white slouch socks, one actually needs to pay extra attention to the placement of the knees when squatting or sitting, to prevent the thigh muscles from looking tense. When lifting the black plush rabbit, the light would naturally converge on the rabbit's eyes, and the black fluffy texture instead looked exceptionally soft under the cool light. These details were the results of our repeated adjustments during the shooting process. In convention photos, this method of forming frames relying solely on the venue's own architectural geometric lines—without any extra backdrops—places extremely high demands on the character's physical posture and eye communication.
During the shooting process, every state of the skirt hemline under each shutter press, the direction of every single hair strand, and the tilt angle of the black rabbit plushie in hand all required repeated adjustments. Pure white clothing is extremely prone to overexposure in the viewfinder, necessitating strict control of exposure compensation to preserve the fabric's lace details. As a cosplayer, effective communication with the photographer is highly critical; together we made good use of the venue's natural structure, successfully capturing the character's charm. After this set of convention photos is released, I hope it allows everyone who sees it to feel this character's quiet and healing charm.
