[Kasugano Sora cosplay] Outdoor Photography Record of the Classic Look from Yosuga no Sora

This shoot was dedicated to a Kasugano Sora cosplay from Yosuga no Sora. Because this visual novel holds special meaning for me as one of the first Galgames I played growing up, I held very high standards for the quality of this shoot.

In terms of styling preparation, I chose a long silver-blonde twin-tail wig tied with black ribbon bows. The costume featured a white ruffled blouse paired with a classic black-and-white checkered pleated miniskirt, sheer black Over-the-knee socks, and patent leather Mary Jane shoes. While this monochrome palette is timeless, attention to detail is what makes it truly work. For instance, the ruffles of the white blouse needed enough stiffness so they would flutter naturally when turning. The black Over-the-knee socks were chosen in a semi-sheer fabric to ensure the gradient transition from skin to socks didn't look too abrupt, pairing with the patent leather shoes to visually elongate the calves. The grey plush rabbit held in my arms served as an essential prop; while holding it, I deliberately adjusted my wrist angle to ensure the white cloth hanging in front looked natural.

To convey the character's signature cool, aloof demeanor, the base makeup was brightened considerably, focusing on blush and eye styling. Combined with subtle glance-back camera angles, this captured her melancholic yet stubborn essence.

The chosen location for this Outdoor photography was a park with a fountain and European-style pavilions. Since the overall atmosphere of Yosuga no Sora carries a quiet countryside tranquility, the fountain and architectural backdrop fit the setting wonderfully. The lighting was great on the shooting day, relying primarily on natural light. After discussing with the photographer, we decided on a low-angle upward perspective. The benefit of a low angle is minimizing cluttered background elements while flattering subject proportions. Standing beside the fountain in a pose with one leg lifted back, leaning forward slightly while glancing back over my shoulder, allowed us to showcase the layered depth of the black Over-the-knee socks and skirt hem without blocking facial expressions.

We also had a few little mishaps during the shoot—such as spinning too fast and accidentally dipping the checkered skirt in fountain water, or sudden wind gusts tousling the wig, requiring us to pause and restyle. Yet these small accidents added to the fun. After adjusting my footing and balance a few times, we finalized this shot, keeping the subject centered for a clean, balanced composition.

As a reflection on Outdoor photography, capturing photos with Anime cosplay attributes requires careful background composition. In this photo, the aperture was stopped down slightly to keep the fountain and buildings reasonably clear while keeping the subject razor-sharp. Furthermore, the black-and-white outfit contrasted ideally against green trees and grey stones, maintaining a balanced color contrast. In post-processing, color grading was unified to balance the sky's blue with the fountain's stonework grey. These adjustments weren't about chasing absolute perfection, but about faithfully evoking the character's mood in that moment. Reliving those memories through this shoot served as my personal homage to Yosuga no Sora.
