Bringing this Touhou Project Ibaraki Kasen cosplay to fruition took nearly half a month from initial preparation to final delivery. Aiming to evoke an aesthetic simultaneously brimming with celestial grace and bizarre, whimsical contrast, I dedicated substantial effort to refining wardrobe and prop details. The garments retained her classic red-and-green color blocking; the subtle golden jacquard woven into the fabric and the cascading red tassels heavily challenged our lighting setup, as flat illumination would have completely erased textile definition. For the detached white lace flare sleeves, I embellished them with three-dimensional pink-and-white florets, allowing the sleeves to drape with organic elegance whenever my hands lifted to reach for a bun.

Regarding hair and makeup, to match the character's signature pink locks, I sculpted an ahoge curve at the crown and framed both sides with exaggerated pink-and-white peony ornaments. In eye makeup, I selected pinkish-purple contact lenses accompanied by dense false eyelashes; to cultivate a doll-like porcelain demeanor, blush was applied heavily across the cheeks, while a deep crimson lip grounded the otherwise airy, light tones. White bandages wrapped around my arm introduced a battle-worn or yandere edge that, juxtaposed against delicate lace, immediately injected striking textural contrast.

The standout prop highlight of this shoot was undeniably the yellow bamboo steamer brimming with white steamed buns. Holding a bun toward the camera or sitting cross-legged while balancing the steamer helped temper the overwhelming opulence of the dress. To heighten visual impact, we incorporated heavy, thick black iron chains into the frame. When delicate lace, white Stockings, and coarse, brooding metal chains shared the same space, an evocative tension between restraint and liberation naturally emerged.

For set styling, we layered abundant faux peonies and lotuses beneath tiered translucent drapes. The trickiest element was the mirrored reflective floor: every fold of the skirt hemline, chain link, and petal reflection was mirrored into the frame, imposing immense demands on compositional balance where the slightest misstep would clutter the image. I lowered my center of gravity, sitting cross-legged so my red Mary Janes and white Stockings cast sharp reflections onto the mirrored surface, allowing the photographer to capture expansive spatial depth through a high-angle overhead shot combined with the reflections.

The final over-the-shoulder glance centered attention on the back lines and lace-trimmed cuffs. Regulating my breath before the lens and angling my torso subtly let the natural studio light illuminate my profile and headpieces cleanly. The finished images resonated deeply with my creative vision for this character in this specific narrative setting. I am currently packing up these props and wiping down the reflections on the iron chains, ready to refine even more nuances in the next shoot.
