This official duo photoshoot of Heino and Dolia is finally ready to share with everyone! For this outdoor session, we selected a plaza adorned with classical European architecture and gilded statues. Shooting at night combined with intense, warm-toned rim lighting posed a major test for both fabric textures and skin tone rendering.
Cosplaying Dolia this time around, the wardrobe details were remarkably elaborate. The top is a Lolita-style cut rich in lace and delicate pleats, accented at the chest with a deep brown ribbon bow. What delighted me most was the skirt design, crafted from multiple tiers of iridescent sheer organza that caught the studio lighting to refract kaleidoscopic luster into the night. To faithfully recreate the character's charm, I completed the look with white lace sleeves and chunky platform boots.
My partner, Allen Water, who cosplayed Heino, wore an ensemble equally packed with visual layering. His white mandarin-collar coat was trimmed with blue-and-gold borders and tassels, paired with a semi-translucent sheer cape flowing behind him. The blue star-shaped hair accessory and pale contacts lent him an icy, aloof elegance. We spent a long time fine-tuning our dynamic postures, channeling the visual tension of character interactions. For instance, in one shot I leaned slightly forward to meet his gaze as he sat on a stone balustrade—a composition that highlighted the shimmering highlights along the skirt's edge while elongating leg contours from a side angle. The White stockings and lace garter bands also introduced an alluring, tasteful charm. Through the interplay of light and shadow, staggered staging, and the fluttering motion of the skirt and cape, we aimed to portray that distinctive, deep bond shared between the two characters.
In terms of props, Heino's chest talisman engraved with text and Dolia's complex headpiece underwent extensive manual adjustments. Though the shoot was physically demanding—constantly holding varied poses across the marble floor—seeing the tactile depth displayed in the camera made every second worthwhile. Nighttime shoots in an architectural plaza are inherently constrained by ambient conditions, yet the golden statues provided a gorgeous color contrast against the twilight blue sky. We set up two bi-color LED lights on location: the key light angled from the front-side to cleanly sculpt facial contours while preserving the metallic silver and gold sheen of our outfits. The fill light served to suppress distracting background elements, keeping visual focus squarely anchored on the characters. During the shot where we leaned in to meet each other's gaze, a gust of wind picked up just in time, lifting Dolia's skirt and high ponytail while billowing Heino's sheer cape. The photographer snapped consecutive frames, yielding shots brimming with palpable kinetic energy.
Let's also touch upon the makeup. Shooting under night lighting demands much higher precision from foundation and contouring than daytime shoots, requiring three-dimensional structure without appearing cakey. Dolia's eye makeup utilized a soft pinkish base dusted with delicate glitter, paired with the pink wig to evoke a dreamy presence. Heino's makeup emphasized shadows along the brow bone and jawline, which, paired with cool-fair foundation and blue contacts, brought out an instantly composed, calm demeanor. Accessories like waist belts, metal chains, and feather trims had to be readjusted between takes to guarantee flawless on-camera presentation.
We spent nearly four hours shooting this series, navigating numerous staging tweaks and makeup touch-ups throughout. Because the train of the dress was long and voluminous, easily stepped on or disrupted by the breeze, our assistant was constantly on hand smoothing it out. While posing, my partner and I continuously communicated regarding angle coordination—whether I tilted my head up while he looked down, or he gestured for me to lean closer. Our hope was not merely to recreate the costumes, but to use body language to narrate the atmospheric emotional bond between the two characters sharing the same frame. In short, the creation of this series is owed entirely to the combined efforts of the whole crew—photography, styling, and backstage support were each indispensable. We truly hope everyone enjoys the visual experience presented here.
