[Durandal Cosplay] Dea Anchora's Dawn Strike—This Strike Pierces the Stars

This strike pierces the stars! But when actually performing this movement in reality, I realized that maintaining body balance is truly a significant challenge. When shooting the pose in Photo 1, my entire body weight relied solely on a single leg for support, while also balancing the center of gravity of holding a long-shaft weapon; even a slight wobble would ruin the tension of the movement. I tried it repeatedly on set at the time, with my core muscle groups exerting maximum force, and I almost couldn't hold it steady. Fortunately, the final selected photo indeed carries that powerful vibe of shattering stars.

For this entire outfit, the most effort went into restoring the fabrics and details. The primary color scheme features a clashing red and black. The outer layer is made of a glossy and supportive red material, while the inner lining is a black fabric with subtle patterns. There are many golden embroideries and metallic-textured accessories distributed on the outfit. Especially at the chest and the cinched waist, the embellished metal decorations along with that white semi-3D flower ornament give the otherwise large area of red a visual sense of layering. However, the cut of this costume is highly bold—featuring off-the-shoulder, open-waist, and high-slit designs, which indeed tests one's ability to pull off such a physique. Once the wig and props were put on, the upright presence of my entire posture immediately felt different.

The weapon prop featured this time is truly substantial. That bright red long-shaft weapon, though its material is likely not solid metal, still has a certain heaviness when held in hand. Moreover, during the actual shoot, this prop could be disassembled or held separately with single hands. You can see different forms of this weapon after reassembly in Photo 4 and Photo 6, which, paired with the half-tied high golden ponytail and blue eye makeup, beautifully outlines the overall aura. The makeup specifically emphasized the contours of the eyes, brows, and lip color to highlight the character's resolute and heroic temperament.

The background for the shoot was deliberately chosen to be a Chinese-style set paired with large areas of red fabric drapes. The screen features an ink-wash bamboo painting, which, under the warm-toned on-site lighting, creates a nice resonance with the character's own bright red attire. If you compare these with the CG special effects images I posted previously, you'll find that the real-studio shoot actually lacks some of the fantasy light and shadow splashes, but instead gains a more solid sense of character texture. Supported by the drapes and cement-textured blocks, we used a more classical lighting method to highlight the diamond patterns and gold threads on the costume, instantly bringing out a solemn yet powerful atmosphere.

There is always a certain gap between Anime cosplay and the actual character settings, especially for a character like this who possesses a strong metallic texture and flowing combat elements. The skirt of this outfit is massive, and when walking or posing, it is very easy to step on the front trailing fabric. So every step that day was taken very carefully, while still ensuring the overall posture remained majestic—especially in a pose like Photo 6 with one leg lightly stepping on the square block, where the waist must be kept straight and the hem of the dress must drape naturally along with the action.

To make this Cosplay photoshoot more engaging, besides the actual studio shots, I specifically created the first few preview images synthesized with digital special effects. This method of combining real-life photography with post-production visual effects makes the entire work look much more impactful when posted, and also better restores that artistic conception of fighting in the cosmos. I hope that through this interpretation of the character Durandal, I can show everyone that resolve and sense of power. The effort put into the entire shooting and production cycle was more than expected, but seeing the final images makes me feel that everything was completely worth it.
