This Blue Archive Sunohara Kokona cosplay photo set is finally ready to share with everyone. Choosing an outdoor night shoot this time was mainly to use the dark night backdrop to highlight the contrast between the black-and-white striped uniform and the white hair. Although nighttime lighting conditions can be demanding, the final outcome truly exceeded my expectations.
Regarding the outfit, the top features a sleeveless stand-collar design with thin vertical white stripes on a black base, a teardrop cut-out at the chest, and a delicate red cord tied at the neckline as an accent. The bottom is paired with a layered white pleated skirt. To accurately replicate the character's features, I wore a long, straight silvery-white wig topped with plush animal ears featuring pink interiors, along with that hair ornament composed of a purple-blue ring and pink beads. The wig also has subtle black highlights, especially around the bangs and tips, which gives it a richer sense of depth and dimension.
For makeup, the focus today was on emphasizing the eyes. Using an earth-toned base combined with deeper blending at the outer corners and circle lenses made the eyes look larger and more innocent. For the base makeup, I went with a matte finish so that it wouldn't reflect excessively under strong nighttime fill lights. The lip color was chosen in a soft shade to fit the sweet girl aesthetic.
Once on set, the biggest challenge was actually the lighting. In night portraiture, without good lighting setups, the face can easily look flat or blend into the background. We tested several angles and ultimately used bi-color temperature lights paired with softboxes to sculpt facial dimension while preserving shadow details in the background. A white circular plush rug was spread on the ground, instantly becoming the brightest visual element in the frame. Stepping barefoot on it felt completely different from grass—it was exceptionally soft, which helped me relax while posing.
In terms of posing, we didn't force any exaggerated stances, instead keeping to a relaxed state natural to the character. In the final few shots, you can see one sitting cross-legged and another sitting sideways with legs extended. Sitting poses significantly influence visual proportions: extending the legs to the side lengthens visual lines nicely, making the legs appear longer with cleaner contours on camera. For the looking-back pose, keeping the neck and shoulders relaxed with the chin tucked slightly was key to capturing that effortless, candid look.
The entire shoot was quite demanding. Being on the grass at night meant dealing with lots of mosquitoes while simultaneously managing lights and reflectors. Adjusting the lighting positions alone took substantial time, and we constantly had to check the skirt and hair to prevent wind disruptions or grass clippings from sticking. But seeing the finished photos made all the effort worthwhile. I feel Sunohara Kokona inherently carries a unique charm—both well-behaved and adorable, yet with a hint of playfulness. Against the night backdrop, this vibe stands out even more. I hope this photo set conveys this special atmosphere to everyone.
