This styling pairing a white-and-gold military coat with black shorts and thigh-highs was my main plan for this convention. The gold tassels on the epaulets and cords across the chest took careful arranging to avoid looking messy. The pink wig had to be curled the night before, and the black ribbons on both sides needed tight pinning to withstand convention crowds. The white beret was secured with several hairpins. I went with pink-toned makeup paired with matching contact lenses, resulting in a clean finish under the venue's cool blue lighting.
Finding a shooting spot at the convention wasn't easy; steering clear of the crowded main aisles, we found a relatively open area on the grandstand stairs. The photographer utilized the blue railings and blurred light bokeh in the background, creating a crisp contrast between the cool lighting and the white-and-gold coat that made the frame pop. With many people on-site, we constantly had to watch out for passersby walking into the shot.
Each of the four photos focuses on a distinct posture. The first photo uses the blue-and-white checkered flag as a prop while leaning against the railing, presenting a relaxed demeanor and framing the full outfit nicely. The second is an interactive pose extending one arm forward, using perspective to enhance spatial depth alongside engaging eye contact. The third is a kneeling pose on the flag without heels; this pose tested leg and core control, while holding my head created a languid vibe, best showcasing the lines of the black thigh-highs. The fourth is a cross-legged sitting pose where reflections from the gold buckle on the belt and black shorts draw the eye to the waist and legs, with a backward glance adding dynamic interest.
This outfit is packed with fine details. The gold tassels on the white coat create dynamic motion when turning or walking, but easily tangle and require straightening after every pose change. The chest ornaments and epaulets carry some weight, slightly restricting movement. The high-waisted black shorts paired with thigh-highs elongate leg proportions beautifully, though walking all day in chunky platform heels was definitely tiring. The shoot lasted around forty minutes and was physically demanding, but the high fidelity in the final shots made it all worthwhile.
Fate/Grand Order's Astolfo has a unique design that places high demands on physique and posture. With prevailing cool tones on-site, managing exposure was key. To retain the authentic atmosphere of Convention photos, we avoided harsh artificial strobes and preserved natural venue lighting for a rich ambiance. The short-trimmed bangs required constant attention in breezy areas. The blue-and-white checkered flag worked wonderfully as a prop across seating areas and floor tiles—whether sitting on it or holding it up. During editing, retouching was kept restrained, mainly adjusting contrast and color balance to make the military gold accents pop while preserving authentic skin texture.
Capturing Convention photos in messy expo lighting is always a challenge. Because Astolfo's white uniform stood out against the blue background, we deliberately chose this cool-lit backdrop. The flag prop easily dragged on the ground while walking, but its blue-and-white palette harmonized beautifully with the outfit. Large movements always meant resetting the gold cords and tassels. I hope to capture more great angles next time, and huge thanks to the photographer for the sharp candid captures.
