[Kokona cosplay] Blue Archive's magical girl: Firefly ACG Expo convention photos record

Wrap for Day 3 of the 37th Firefly ACG Expo! Sharing these outdoor convention photos to show off this look. The black-and-white vertical striped vest and pleated skirt, paired with white detachable sleeves and gloves, create a sleek silhouette. The huge blue bowtie at the collar and side waist decorations add a key visual focal point to the frame.

This outdoor photography session took place on the streets outside the convention venue. Daytime light was abundant, with sunlight filtering through the canopy to cast dappled light and shadows on the ground, which really helped capture the texture of the wig and outfit. The wig is a long straight silver-white style, adorned at the top with light blue glasses frames and pink antenna tips, complemented by a pair of grayish-white animal ears, making the upper-body details exceptionally rich.

In terms of posing, we tried several standing postures—from dynamic snaps standing on one leg to more static poses, like sitting on the nearby stone steps. Holding the magic wand required managing the angle facing the lens so that light flares caught right on the star-shaped tip, giving the photos layered detail. The small blue bows on the high heels also visually echoed the white socks.

Every outfit has details that need meticulous adjustment. The ruffles and blue ribbons at the cuffs sway naturally with larger movements, so capturing them meant paying attention to moments of gentle breeze. Meanwhile, velcro and belt positions needed fine-tuning between shots to avoid awkward creases—a common detail handling during outdoor shoots.

Collaborating with photographer @八次方根 was smooth and in sync. When framing, he paid attention to the background bokeh along the street, actively avoiding cluttered pedestrians and vehicles while using tree shade and street perspective to highlight the main subject, keeping the focus grounded in the magical girl concept.

The weather was overall pleasant today, though it got a bit warm midway. Staying outdoors for long periods tests both makeup and costume, but maintaining character state in front of the lens is essential. Kokona's personality carries a touch of tsundere mixed with cuteness, so I kept my expressions slightly restrained—opting for subtle, confident, and playfully cute micro-expressions rather than exaggerated big smiles to better fit the character.

Compared to high-key studio lighting, outdoor natural light has more contrast, but yields far more natural and realistic skin textures and clothing weaves. The combination of white thigh-highs and black shoes against asphalt and crosswalks rendered leg contours sleek and crisp. Shifting my weight slightly helped present skirt folds beautifully without making the posture look stiff.

Looking back at these convention photos, I'm glad ambient background light didn't wash out the subject; the character pops and costume textures show clearly. The crispness of striped elements combines softly with white ruffles and blue accessories, keeping overall color saturation well-balanced. Though outdoor photography is tiring—requiring mosquito repellent and sun protection—producing photos that satisfy both myself and the photographer makes it entirely worthwhile.
