This bridal cosplay photoset of Shimoe Koharu is the fruit of my partner and me building everything from scratch. From selecting fabrics and finalizing patterns to purchasing props, studio lighting, and shooting, it took a full two weeks of our spare time.

Let's first talk about the costume and wig. The parts of this white dress that troubled me the most were the cutouts and ribbons. To achieve that lightweight yet form-fitting effect, we went through three different fabrics, finally choosing a chiffon with subtle pearlescent shimmer. Combined with the stiff inner mesh lining, it allows the skirt hem and wide ruffled cuffs to maintain a fluffy arc when thrown in the air without looking heavy. The small flowers on the chest and the dark blue choker were completely hand-sewn, especially the cross-star pattern on the choker, which we checked repeatedly against the original game design to maximize accuracy. The wig features a two-tone gradient, and the curved halo bracket on top was also bent by ourselves using thermoplastic sheets. Paired with the dark blue feather hair accessories, it adds a touch of sacredness to the girlish look.

Set construction was the main event of this shoot. The vintage gold picture frame and the iron birdcage frame behind it were sourced from a second-hand market and repainted by us. We spread over ten meters of pink and white tulle drapes across the floor. To create a cloud-like three-dimensional effect, we used wire mesh as the base support and layered the tulle on top piece by piece. The direction of every single flower on the white pillar flowerpots and pink sakura branches on both sides was adjusted. Combined with the taro-purple gradient background cloth behind, it ultimately presented a romantic yet slightly surreal "world within a painting" view. During the shoot, to capture the dynamic movement of the skirt hem falling naturally, we threw it over a dozen times. My partner was lying on the ground helping me adjust the folds of the tulle while also controlling the angle of the reflector, ensuring the high-key lighting was evenly cast on my face and outfit to avoid heavy shadows.

In truth, along the journey of cosplay, it is often difficult for a single person to complete such a complex scene. This time, being able to collaborate with my partner to transform the images in our minds into actual photographs gave me a great sense of achievement. Although the shooting process was exhausting, seeing the final results in the viewfinder made all the late-night tailoring and prop-hauling completely worth it. I hope this passion and dedication for anime can be conveyed through the photos to all the friends who see them during this Anime-style photography experience.
