[Chihiro and Haku Cosplay] A Serene Reunion on the Stone Steps

On the day of this forest location shoot, the mottled light filtering through the tree canopy was exceptionally soft. We met at the foot of the mountain early in the morning and quickly completed our makeup and styling preparations.

This outfit actually focuses a lot on everyday comfort. Haku's white top is paired with deep blue hakama trousers, made of a linen blend with a slight matte texture, making it breathable and not stuffy to wear in the woods. For my Chihiro cosplay, featuring an orange-red and white stitched design, the long white ribbon at the waist was a key focus during the shoot. Since the location required frequent walking and climbing, the waist position had to be well-adjusted to prevent it from looking loose. As for the wigs, the wind in the forest was quite strong, and short hair styles can easily be messed up. Therefore, we used setting spray in advance to ensure that the basic silhouette was maintained even after sweating or getting stained with grass and wood dust.

The scene itself provided a very natural composition. For the first set, we chose the wooden railing area. Because the railings were staggered at different heights, Haku sat above looking down while Chihiro looked up from below. This camera position beautifully captured their eye contact and height difference during this Duo interaction. Due to the abundant shadows from the tree branches, the photographer needed to use a reflector to add a bit of fill light to the face, ensuring even lighting while preserving the tone of the ambient light.

When it came to the stone steps section, that stretch of stone path was actually slightly slippery and covered in moss, requiring great care when walking. We walked back and forth on it multiple times, holding hands or jumping across one after another. This kind of coordinated action might not hit the best state in one or two tries, often requiring three or four rounds of adjustment to achieve a natural and stable dynamic feel. The camera angle was lowered as much as possible to capture the foot movements and their mutual reliance.

After shooting so many frames, my partner and I felt that there was actually no need to deliberately make exaggerated expressions. When playing these two roles from Spirited Away, maintaining a sense of quiet companionship and a protective atmosphere felt the most natural, evoking fond Childhood memories. For the close-up shot of interlocking fingers, we stood on the stone pillars in the water and repeatedly adjusted our hand angles until the sunlight hit the back of our hands and sleeves from the side-rear, forming a soft highlight rim.

This type of outdoor shoot with its own environmental narrative follows a route of natural lighting and botanical atmospheres. Compared to studio photography, it has less deliberate shaping and more of a real breathing sensation. Although we got some mud and grass debris on us after half a day, and our feet inevitably felt a bit numb stepping on the cold stones, seeing the unity of light, shadow, and color in the final photos made it all worth it. Standing by the flowing forest stream in this outfit, that quiet trust between us made this shooting experience extremely smooth.
