[Ume Hanami and Saki Hanami cosplay] Gakuen Idolmaster Sisters: Pink Uniform Styling

Shooting this sister combination of Ume Hanami and Saki Hanami cosplay from Gakuen Idolmaster, the main workload concentrated on fine-tuning the details of costumes, makeup, and props.

The pink knit cardigan was custom-tailored; the knit fabric was treated to be structured and wrinkle-resistant, making it ideal for dynamic Duo interaction poses. The blue-and-white striped edging along the collar and the embroidered chest crest were faithfully recreated. For the navy pleated skirt, we specifically selected a fabric with great drape so the hemline flutters naturally when running or turning. Most importantly, the light-blue plaid peeking from the lower section of the pleated skirt adds tremendous layered depth to the Pink uniform. Paired with white Over-the-knee socks and leg garters, it neatly accentuates the leg lines.

In terms of makeup, to match the character designs, we wore purple-pink and golden contacts, focusing the eye makeup on defining lower lashes and aegyo-sal (undereye highlights) to make the gaze look softer and more expressive. The wigs used heat-resistant fibers in an orange-pink shade; extensive time was spent trimming the bangs, layering the curls at the ends with a curling iron, and pinning voluminous double buns on top to ensure they wouldn't sag from any angle.

The lighting was great on the day of the shoot; we mainly utilized natural light paired with reflectors for fill light to clarify facial contours. Photo 1 features an embracing Duo interaction pose—requiring careful positioning so arms don't obstruct faces, staggering stances front-to-back, and delivering the right eye contact. Photo 3 is a frontal standing pose, where the focus was keeping the skirt smooth and wrinkle-free. Photo 2 is a backstage mirror selfie in the dressing room during a break, where the ring light and slight water spots on the mirror lend an authentically real atmosphere. Photo 4 is a candid snapshot of a single-person profile glance over the shoulder, conveying a playful, casual mood.

The entire shooting process was quite demanding, requiring continuous movement and repositioning, while constantly monitoring the drape of the skirt and keeping the Over-the-knee socks pulled straight. Despite the challenges, the final photos delivered a vibrant campus atmosphere. The hardest part of a paired cosplay is syncing both participants' style and presence; thankfully, having a deep understanding of these characters beforehand allowed us to complete this set through subtle adjustments in positioning and emotional expression. It was a smooth and memorable shooting experience well worth recording.
