[Herta Cosplay] Holding the Magic of Star Rail, Restoring the Aloof Aura of Honkai: Star Rail

This photo set for Herta cosplay has finally been released smoothly. Regarding this styling, the most challenging part during preparation was the coordination between the head and neck elements.

First is this giant purple witch hat. It has a very wide brim with regular dark patterns on the surface. To prevent it from tilting due to slight head movements during the shoot, solid internal support was built inside. The brim's curvature and its relative position to the bangs of the silver-white wig were adjusted many times, ensuring it wouldn't block my eyes while maintaining visual balance.

The wig was selected in a cool-toned silver-gray with a touch of flaxen hue, allowing it to present a very soft texture under studio lighting. Black square hair clips and pale purple ribbon bows were added on both sides, enriching the visual layering of the head styling. When styling the hair strands, keeping airy bangs required quite a bit of effort; to avoid long straight hair sticking flat to the scalp, every strand's direction had to be set using hair wax.

The neck choker is a prominent element in this costume. Black leather strap combined with metal rivets, a white collar piece, and a black keyhole pattern evoke a subtle sense of mystery and restraint. However, during actual wear, the choker's rigidity limited lower jaw and neck movement over extended shoots. This forced me to maintain an upright neck posture, which ironically fit the character's aloof temperament perfectly.

The black-and-blue bodice on top is very sharp, with the silver three-dimensional ornament on the chest serving as the visual centerpiece. This piece is crafted with a 3D curved structure, making it highly sensitive to light reflections during lighting setups. Photographer Ryan specifically adjusted the positions of the key and side lights during the shoot to sharpen the metallic texture and depth of the silver ornament without overexposing highlights, creating a clean, translucent contrast between skin and silver accessories.

Another feature that deeply fascinated me was the sleeves. The voluminous white and light-purple gradient chiffon sleeves paired with the cinched waist created a tight-top, loose-bottom visual silhouette. This material is exceptionally airy, but during indoor studio shoots, if we stood too close or lacked wide movements, it would clump together without stretching out properly. Therefore, I deliberately posed with one hand holding the hat brim while extending the other hand forward, expanding the ruffles at the cuffs through arm tension to create a smooth, sweeping dynamic motion.

As for makeup, the focal point was on the eyes. Blue-purple contacts were worn to match the overall cool color palette, while the eyeliner was slightly extended and flicked up to make the gaze look bright and resolute. Rather than selecting a vivid color, lips were done in a matte nude shade with a touch of warmth, ensuring facial colors weren't overshadowed by cool-toned apparel.

The studio background during the shoot was a clean light gray-blue backdrop; this low-contrast, bright background style was ideal for presenting costume details and character facial expressions. I personally really enjoy such minimalist studio shooting because all visual focus remains entirely on the individual and the costume's tailoring.

Regarding this photo set, Ryan's snapshots were spot on—especially during the transition between my hand extending and hat holding gestures, where the shutter captured many natural flowing trajectories of the garment and the dynamic motion of hair strands. Reviewing the RAW files, I felt the overall styling revealed a unique balanced beauty within the vertical and horizontal framing—both dignified and imbued with an aloof aura.

After finishing this shoot, I gained much more experience with heavy-volume characters—especially those featuring Witch hat wig setups and rigid neck chokers. From securing wig styling to fanning out sleeves, every step requires careful deliberation. As an Anime cosplayer, I hope to challenge even more textured costumes in future Cosplay sharing sessions.
