I've finally sorted out this set of outdoor return photos for Robin! The weather during ChuWuYu Anime Expo was quite cooperative, allowing me to take a full photoshoot outside in this elaborate gown. Portraying Robin definitely came with some pressure—as the shining superstar of Penacony, her overall look is remarkably regal. Starting with the wig: to recreate that airy, dreamy texture, I specifically chose a blue-to-purple gradient wig and focused on crafting the feather wings at her ears. For these ear feathers, I selected biomimetic materials with a natural luster, secured inside the wig with a custom internal wire frame so they wouldn't easily wobble while walking or posing, while still keeping that gentle breeze-blown aesthetic. Layering and trimming the wig was equally essential—the wispy front bangs were set with hairspray to retain airy volume without looking stiff.
Moving on to the dress, it is packed with intricate details. The off-the-shoulder boat neckline uses generous layers of ruffles and chiffon; to avoid looking bulky, the inner lining incorporates a boned corset that cinches the waist while supporting the ornate pearl chains across the bodice. The deep-blue bows and fabric roses on the chest were entirely hand-stitched from satin, catching natural daylight with a soft, elegant sheen. The voluminous skirt features an asymmetrical high-low cut, layering bright blue chiffon over crisp white underskirts with rolled hems to prevent fraying. For ease of movement around the expo grounds, I added a hidden handle inside the skirt hem—the skirt-lifting pose seen in the photos—which beautifully elongates the leg lines while keeping me from tripping over the voluminous hem.
For makeup, to reflect Robin's delicate polish, I wore bright blue circle lenses and dotted fine rhinestone glitter along the outer eye corners and lower eyelids, making them sparkle softly under the sunlight. I chose a classic red lip tone to boost my complexion while grounding the cool tones of the blue-purple hair. The multi-strand pearl choker around my neck used heavier, premium faux pearls to maintain a grounded, substantial look.
In Penacony's storyline, Robin embodies a quiet resilience and warmth—her song line 'If I can stop one heart from breaking' deeply moved me. During this outdoor shoot, I aimed to convey that tranquil, graceful, yet subtly detached presence. Navigating asphalt pavement while carrying a heavy gown was exhausting, and in crowded convention environments, large skirts are prone to being stepped on. Yet with every click of the shutter, seeing that resplendent figure in the viewfinder made all the preparation and convention-day fatigue completely worthwhile. These photos avoid heavy filters, primarily to preserve the natural silk luster and warm daylight texture. Huge thanks to the photographer for capturing these moments, to friends on site who helped adjust the hemline, and to understanding passersby.
