The convention photos from the Chengdu World Line Anime Exhibition are finally sorted out! Let's dive straight into this Daji cosplay look. When crafting this outfit, the most painstaking part was undoubtedly selecting the materials. The main piece is crafted from yellow satin, and to keep it from looking cheap, the inner layer was deliberately chosen in lustrous black faux leather with golden trimmed borders, allowing the rich texture to truly shine under night lighting. The ruby and sapphire gemstone inlays at the chest and waist, paired with metallic accessories, serve as the visual centerpiece of the entire ensemble.
The wig is a light-golden bob; to create a fluffy texture, I intentionally teased it for volume, with the fox ears atop my head serving as a key highlight. To maintain their three-dimensional shape, internal supports were added so they wouldn't collapse in strong convention winds, though the downside was their noticeable weight and tendency to shed fur slightly. Not to mention that enormous tail—while gorgeous on camera, when sitting on the blanket spread across the floor, I had to be constantly vigilant about crushing or deforming it. Then there were the nails: styled into long, pointed black stilettos to match the look, making handling items cumbersome, from sipping water to replying to messages on my phone.
For makeup, to complement the character's demeanor, I used crimson contact lenses. The eye makeup was winged upward with emphasized red blending at the outer corners, striving to capture that alluring, seductive allure in front of the lens. The biggest challenge this time was actually the footwear and the Stockings cosplay. For a visually slimming silhouette, I wore glossy black stiletto high heels—the heels are quite tall, making prolonged standing and walking throughout the convention a serious test of endurance. Furthermore, the legs featured an asymmetrical Stockings cosplay design: one leg in sheer black stockings and the other in diamond fishnets. To secure the metal leg ring on the fishnet side, the tape and straps had to be pulled fairly tight, requiring utmost care when sitting down to pose—not only to prevent wardrobe mishaps, but also to keep the metal accessories aligned properly.
The shoot took place at night against the shimmering dots of city skyline lights. Night fill-lighting is quite an art: the photographer used a cool-toned key light and cast subtle warm rim light from the side, bringing out reflections on the yellow fabric and gold piping without drowning the background into pitch black. To highlight the garment's charm, I explored several poses, such as sitting sideways with crossed legs or leaning forward, doing my best to accentuate body curves. It was actually quite chilly on site despite the white blanket on the ground, but seeing the results on camera made every moment worth it. In particular, the leg-crossed pose proved tricky for balancing center of gravity, requiring solid core engagement to hold steady until we captured the ideal shot.
At the venue, I encountered many friends who love Honor of Kings, and meeting up in person and chatting was an absolute blast. In cosplay, beyond replicating a character's outward appearance, capturing their inner spirit is what truly matters. Daji innately possesses both seductive allure and playful mischief, so in terms of expression management and body language, I abandoned stiff posing, immersing myself fully into her persona. Sometimes, just adjusting a glance or subtly arching a finger transforms the entire mood of a photo.
I'm very satisfied with both the color tones and details of this set, while also identifying areas for improvement—such as ensuring the seams of the fishnets sit smoother next time. Every convention is an endurance trial, but it also brings immense joy. From getting dressed and touching up makeup to communicating with photographers on site, the entire rhythm was intense, yet seeing the final images made every bit of exhaustion vanish. I hope everyone enjoys this photo set!
