At the Firefly ACG Expo venue, I appeared in front of the lens as Daji from Honor of Kings with this newly adjusted gear. This layered dress in mint green and milk white, combined with the massive fluffy animal ear headpiece, gives off a summer dessert vibe. Combined with the dark background hit directly by the photographer's flash, it actually clearly displayed many complicated ruffle and bow details on the dress.
First, let's talk about the costume and makeup/styling. This Daji look uses a white ruffled neckline with mint green as the main color tone, adorned with a highly conspicuous small red flower brooch on the chest. The headpiece structure is quite complex, featuring not only a white maid-style ruffled headscarf but also bows interwoven with light yellow and mint green, which took quite a lot of time to fix securely. The wig is bright golden short cropped hair, trimmed just right to highlight the contours of the face, and paired with emerald green colored contacts and clean, bright base makeup, it makes the entire 2D texture very full. Wearing the matching white fingerless ruffled sleeves on my hands and stepping into a pair of platform creepers decorated with ruffles and bows on the soles makes the upper and lower proportions of the overall look more coordinated.
In terms of props, I prepared two items this time. One is an exquisite little cake placed on a small white plate, topped with green cream and yellow fruits, which perfectly echoes the artistic conception of "adding some sugar to memories" in the post's caption. The softness of this set of props matches well with the first and second photos where I am kneeling on the ground, conveying a sense of gentleness and playfulness. The second prop is a giant white four-tined fork, similarly decorated with a mint green bow. This fork carries quite a bit of weight in hand; in the third photo, I sit on a high stool at the convention venue, holding this fork with both hands while my legs extend naturally and slightly relaxed. This sitting posture beautifully displays the leg lines and the details of the platform shoes, while the large prop and the petite character form a distinct gap-moe, giving the composition of the frame immense tension and balance.
Regarding shooting and post-color grading, we chose a high-contrast studio-style lighting approach. Since the convention environment is quite cluttered, direct flash can darken the background and highlight the character subject. During the shoot, I needed to constantly adjust my shoulder height, chin angle, and eye focus on the lens, because the wig and headpiece might block the light path and generate shadows, which relied on quick cooperation with the photographer. In post-production, I intentionally preserved the freshness of the mint green when adjusting highlights, without excessive skin smoothing, hoping to reflect a bit of real makeup texture so that the photos look like they have breathing room and aren't too flat.
As both the cosplayer and editor of this set of photos, from the early costume production and wig trimming to transporting these large props to the convention venue, and then to the photographer finding the best camera angles, we actually went through quite a few minor twists and turns along the way. For instance, the giant fork takes up a lot of space in the crowd, so I had to be careful not to bump into other visitors. But seeing the clear, bright presentation of mint green and white against the dark background in the final cuts makes me feel all the hassle was completely worth it. This set of convention photos records a real snippet of me as Honor of Kings' Daji at the Firefly ACG Expo, and I hope through these photos to convey the sweetness and spirituality inherent to the character of Daji herself.
