[Diaochan Cosplay] Honor of Kings: Ethereal Moments Amid Soft Draped Gauze

This Studio shoot for Honor of Kings Diaochan cosplay focused on recreating light, shadow, and the character's ethereal style. A lot of prep work went in before shooting—trimming the wig, ironing clothes, and assembling headpieces—ensuring everything looked its best before the camera. The overall outfit features white and gold trim, where the standing collar bandeau structure gives the upper body a light appearance, while the pink gem at the collar and blue gem inlay on the chest enhance visual depth. The fabric has a subtle shimmer, looking remarkably soft under gentle lighting.

For the wig, dark brown was chosen and styled into a high updo, with wispy locks on both sides to frame the face. The headpieces were the highlight: the golden hairpin and pink lotus bud hair accessory at the top, along with the forehead ornament featuring teardrop-shaped blue-green gems, all required careful fixing during hair and makeup styling to prevent tilting. These delicate accessories often serve as eye-catching highlights in the frame. For eye makeup, I paired grey-brown contact lenses with pink eyeshadow blending and elongated eyeliner to craft a gentle yet ethereal gaze. The lip makeup remained a dewy peach shade, keeping the overall makeup look clear and translucent.

For the shooting backdrop, we used interwoven soft draped gauze in blue, pink, and green, accompanied by a few lotus and seedpod props to set a fresh and refined tone. To match the skin's disposition, I kept my posture as relaxed as possible—for example, resting hands gently across the chest highlighted the collarbone lines while giving the outfit cut more dimension. This ethereal, delicate style truly required good facial expression control; the gaze needed to be calm and soft to blend seamlessly into the draped gauze setting. Light pink sheer fabric was used for the shoulder and sleeve areas, presenting a semi-transparent flow in front of the lens that added to the overall dynamic movement.

In post-processing, I refrained from boosting contrast, preferring to preserve the image's soft touch so skin tones and fabric textures appeared more delicate. Cosplay is not merely dressing up, but requires a true understanding of the character's spirit. Meanwhile, to avoid harsh glare from the metallic golden edges of the costume, the photographer and I frequently communicated to tweak camera angles.

Overall, the color scheme of this shoot was bright and pleasing, with the combination of white, pink, blue, and gold coordinating harmoniously against the draped gauze background. Hair and headpieces faced the risk of coming loose during shooting, so touch-ups were done promptly during breaks. Though the shooting process was physically demanding, seeing these ethereal, dreamlike shots in the camera made all the prep work completely worthwhile.
