[Daji cosplay] Honor of Kings Daji: ChinaJoy 2026 Outdoor Shoot

Another year of ChinaJoy Convention location photography has wrapped up successfully. This time I portrayed Daji from Honor of Kings, dedicating extensive prep work to this look beforehand—from wig trimming to sculpting the plush tail, every single detail required hands-on effort.

The dress features a color-blocked pastel macaron palette of baby blue and soft pink, crafted with an off-the-shoulder neckline, multi-layered lace, and ruffled tiers, supported beneath by a structured crinoline petticoat. The heaviest component was undoubtedly the pink-and-blue gradient plush tail trailing behind; to achieve that dense, fluffy volume, the internal padding was packed firmly, heavily testing my physical balance while walking outdoors while constantly dodging ground dirt to safeguard the white lace apron from grass stains. The miniature pink plushie and slogan badge pinned at the waistline added an extra layer of playful charm.

On the cosmetics side, to complement the pastel-pink wig, I selected reddish-pink contact lenses, deepening the ocular dimensions with layered mascara and eyeshadow while dotting sparkling glitter accents across the cheeks. To maintain a clean, pristine complexion under natural sunlight, I deliberately bypassed the harsh midday glare and commenced shooting in the early morning. Footwear consisted of vivid cyan-turquoise stiletto heels, delivering a punchy chromatic clash against the sweet pastel garments.

Our shooting kit paired the Sony A7R III with the Tamron 28-75mm lens, a combination that offered superb operational efficiency for outdoor convention coverage. To showcase the ruffled petticoat tiers and the kinetic flow of the tail, the photographer directed various dynamic poses—such as bringing both clenched fists playfully beside the cheeks or lifting the ruffled skirt hem while glancing back over the shoulder. These poses not only accentuated the White stockings and elongated leg lines within the frame, but also brought the plush props vividly to life.

Convention location photography constantly battles background pedestrian interference and visual clutter. Utilizing the 75mm telephoto end wide open dissolved distant metal railings and white event canopy tents into smooth bokeh, locking the composition's visual weight firmly onto the character. Posing across lawns meant stiletto heels regularly sank into the soil, requiring extra core stamina to stabilize each stance, and coupled with the tail's weight, every movement transition required recalibrating my center of gravity.

Styling the hair and headpieces was equally crucial on set; oversized pink beast ears and delicate lace headwear can easily tilt askew in gusty outdoor breezes. After every sequence, I checked my reflection on my phone screen to verify that the wig, ears, and plush accents remained perfectly aligned, while also pulling up the over-the-knee White stockings to prevent slippage.

Every outdoor shoot is a rigorous trial of stamina and micro-details; from preserving garment integrity to executing graceful kinetic poses, maintaining total focus before the glass is essential. With so many intricate accents spanning lace trims to decorative badges, caring for each element on set to deliver that impeccably sweet aesthetic was the ultimate reward for all our preparations. These Convention photos preserve the joyful memories of this year's convention journey.
