[Firefly Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail — Checking in for a Special Moment on a Workday

Comic conventions on weekends and holidays are always packed, so taking a stealthy day off during a workday to shoot some unique backlog photos on the street feels much better. The plan for this JK uniform Firefly cosplay had actually been sitting in my album for a long time; I always wanted to find a time when the light wasn't too harsh to bring it fully to life. In the photo, I had just finished my makeup inside the car, where the natural diffuse light reflecting in through the sunroof made the entire makeup look extremely soft with an inherent translucent quality.

Speaking of this look, the biggest challenge was actually coordinating the wig and eye makeup. Firefly carries a strong sci-fi vibe and mecha elements; if treated with a generic school style, it would easily lose her signature crispness. Therefore, when finalizing the makeup, I deliberately preserved her slightly droopy eye shape, using purple contacts to brighten her gaze. Paired with clear-textured eyelashes and slender eyeliner, it ensures that under the everyday casual feel of a JK uniform, the unique cool sharpness of SAM's pilot still shines through. Wig styling also underwent some adjustments: making the teal gradient at the tips taper off naturally, matched with a gray headband and bow tie. This retains the obedient charm of a schoolgirl without looking overly dull.

Having posted some official photos previously, friends asked if this JK outfit had a specific lore background. In my view, the joy of roleplay lies not only in 1:1 recreation, but also in placing a character from a grand narrative into relaxed, daily scenarios. Wearing a white lapel shirt tied with a ribbon bow, holding books while walking in sunlight, or sitting quietly in a car like in these photos gives a soul belonging to a sci-fi world a touch of authentic, everyday warmth. I really love how light and shadow hit the hair in these photos, as the soft highlights beautifully display the strand texture of the wig.

The day I went out was actually quite rushed because it was a last-minute schedule swap, leaving very tight time—it took about an hour and a half from doing makeup to Wig styling. The portion shot inside the car was mainly to dodge the harsh, direct sunlight outside at midday. Since the interior is cramped, it poses high demands on lens focal length and shooting angles. To avoid blocking light, I had to lower the seat as much as possible, micro-adjusting facial expressions and head tilts to capture an optimal angle that felt natural, relaxed, and highlighted facial contours. Personally, I love the focused gaze in this photo, which, paired with glossy lip glaze, makes my overall state look very vibrant.

Doing cosplay is often physically demanding—not only enduring the weight of the wig, but also constantly worrying about frizz and makeup longevity. But every time I put on the costume, finish the makeup, and see that familiar character come alive through the lens, the sense of accomplishment is irreplaceable. This JK uniform Firefly cosplay look lacks complex large props, relying instead on expression and makeup, which actually tests one's depth of character understanding even more.
