The core of this Arcueid styling focused on balancing the contrast between blonde hair and crimson eyes. Because blonde tresses and red irises deliver intense visual contrast, I kept the base foundation sheer, relying on a translucent matte finish to soften the sharpness of the red contacts. Eyeliner was slightly elongated to add depth before the lens, paired with lightweight false lashes to avoid an overly heavy makeup look. While the character spans Tsukihime, Fate/Grand Order, and Lunar Legend Tsukihime, I selected the classic blue, white, and gold grand gown.
This gown is exceptionally heavy, especially across the voluminous skirt and draped sleeves, requiring meticulous smoothing to prevent unsightly wrinkles. Photo 2 shows a full-body mirror selfie after setup; while such a sweeping skirt elongates lower-body proportions, it places high demands on composition. Since the dress conceals stockings and legs, visual focus shifted to an upright posture and sculpted waistline contours.
Photos 3 and 4 represent unedited studio camera files. Shot in aperture-priority mode at F2.8 with balanced shutter speeds, the gray cyclorama background cleanly showcased fabric textures and facial nuances. Managing turns with such an expansive skirt was the hardest part, as excessive movement risks wardrobe slips or snagging headpieces. Photo 1 captured a candid close-up expression amid this motion, tilting my face slightly to channel her icy, ethereal gaze. Shooting in RAW facilitated post-processing, where high contrast against the gray backdrop mainly required fine-tuning the blue and gold accents and lifting subtle shadows.
From wig trimming and pinning floral headwear to palette coordination, preparation took extensive time. Blonde wigs reflect light intensely, so studio strobe angles required strict control to prevent hair from washing out into a dull gray. While mirror test shots had messy backgrounds, they established overall silhouette lines. I typically take preliminary full-body phone photos to inspect skirt draping before locking down refined posing with the photographer. Compared to studio camera captures, smartphone wide-angle lenses introduce barrel distortion that warps headpiece and body proportions. Actual studio photography faithfully reconstructed every costume detail.
This session aimed to document Arcueid across varied angles, from intimate facial details to grand full-body elegance in harmony with character lore. Handling such a massive ballgown was tedious, yet it provided invaluable shooting experience.
