Putting on this Chris Kaname outfit, the fabric and structure felt far more substantial than I had anticipated. The dress's asymmetrical patchwork styling offered rich visual layers on camera—one side featuring soft pink fabric and the other a purple-and-black argyle pattern. The purple horizontal strap across the chest and the golden button placements required careful calibration, needing to be cinched tight to support the crisp, structured silhouette of the bodice. The wings on my back were an arresting highlight: one side a pastel pink-and-white rounded butterfly wing, and the other a purple-and-black jester-style wing accented with three small spheres and jagged serrated edges, creating an intense visual collision together.

Holding the two purple pom-poms in hand while striking poses genuinely made me feel like I was stepping onto the live stage. The sleeves were equally packed with nuances: a silky long pink glove on one arm, and a black-and-white diamond argyle arm guard on the other. The two-toned boots on my legs completed the look in a unique way—a pink buckled boot on the left foot and a purple lace-up tall boot on the right. Wearing them instantly locked me into character. Styling the wig took substantial patience as well; the two ahoge cowlicks at the crown had to be perkily defined, while the height and bounce of the twin tails dictated overall visual proportions. For makeup, I chose violet contact lenses to resonate with the wardrobe and background, blending pink-reddish eyeshadow to accentuate an Energetic girl aura, topped with a vivid lipstick to project bright, spirited radiance.

The shooting process proved far more strenuous than expected. To freeze jumping motions in mid-air, I had to tighten my core and leap right as the photographer pressed the shutter, ensuring the pom-poms stayed accurately placed without letting physical strain warp my facial composure. While sitting on the white cylindrical pedestal stool, showing off leg contours and boot craftsmanship required holding my legs suspended and taut, all while keeping the upper body relaxed and fluid. Reaching an arm toward the lens also underwent repeated fine-tuning to strike a harmonious balance between wide-angle perspective distortion and hand grace. Boot styling took extra mindfulness too: while identical in heel height, their differing builds meant getting accustomed to balance and adjusting sleeve snugness consumed time—too loose, and they would slide down during action; too tight, and unsightly skin pinches would emerge.

Kaname is an energetic retro idol bursting with life in the anime. Years ago when watching Pretty Rhythm, the debut of this very costume left an indelible impression on me; that unadulterated purity and spunk unique to vintage anime stayed with me for years. Finally having the opportunity to wear this regalia felt like fulfilling a cherished childhood dream. Even if it carries a touch of retro flair by modern aesthetic standards, that heart-piercing vitality has never faded.

The studio lighting and seamless backdrop performed wonders. The pure purple background perfectly complemented the pink-purple spliced garment, with cast shadows adding depth and texture to the cyclorama wall. Between takes, I continually adjusted the orientation of the pom-poms to ensure they fanned out with maximum volume during twirls and swings, injecting dynamic motion into the frames. Although the process was tiring, seeing the proofs made every ounce of effort worthwhile. This costume was more than just a cosplay trial—it was a heartfelt dialogue with my childhood self, and being able to channel that nostalgic, radiant energy through the camera lens was the shoot's most rewarding gift.
