When doing this Denia cosplay, I mainly wanted to capture that slightly aloof yet energetic vibe. The wig is two meters long and light pink, which took a lot of effort to style, especially the cat ear shape on top of the head, requiring a large amount of hairspray to fix and ensuring it doesn't deform while walking outdoors. In terms of makeup, the saturation was lowered, using red contact lenses and subtle glitter eyeshadow to highlight the character's eye reflection. The red gloves and white dress formed a strong visual contrast, and the prop staff and bear charm were also custom-made. To restore this dreamy blue-purple fantasy scene, we borrowed an indoor studio with Gothic window panes, brought in Roman columns and a large number of blue-and-white hydrangeas, and hung purple fabric drapes from the ceiling.
The camera used for this shoot was the Canon EOS R8, and its autofocus speed in low-light environments really surprised me. To capture that hazy feeling brought by backlight, we arranged two warm-toned light sources in the back, matching the cool-toned ambient light on-site to render the overall fantasy atmosphere. I particularly love the low-angle perspective in Figure 3. The camera position was placed very low, and paired with a wide-angle lens, it can shoot an elongated effect for long legs. The pink and blue base layers of the skirt hem are distinct in layers, and the tension under that upward-looking angle lens is very captivating. Also, the airborne action in Figure 2 was actually a candid shot of me jumping off a blue pedestal. To make the skirt hem and long hair present a perfect floating state, I jumped about twenty times, and the photographer kept continuous high-speed shooting on to help me capture that most natural moment.
On the clothing level, the design of this outfit is quite complex, featuring gemstone chain decorations on the chest, an irregular hem that is short in the front and long in the back, and diamond-shaped hollows and fringe details on the edge of the pink cape in the back. To prevent the clothes from looking bulky when walking, I added hidden snaps on the back myself before the shoot to tighten it. During the shooting process, I paid special attention to how my fingers exerted force, such as the holding angle when grasping the staff and the fingertip strength when gesturing towards the lens. These small details often determine whether the character in the final photo has that aura. The finger-against-lip action in Figure 6 was an idea improvised on-site with the photographer, combining a close-up to maximize the contrast between the red gloves and the face.
Throughout the entire shoot, from lighting setup to motion capture, every link required a lot of trial and error in the early stage. The floral arrangement in the environment actually affects the refraction of light, especially white flowers which are prone to overexposure from reflection, requiring the photographer to frequently adjust the camera position. Although the process was quite tiring, seeing those dreamy images on the camera playback made me feel that all the preparations were worth it.
