I finally brought Denia from Wuthering Waves (Wuthering Waves) to life at this comic convention—from early prep to the on-site shoot, the whole journey was thoroughly fulfilling. Once I decided to take on this character, the first headache was the wig styling. Denia's hair is predominantly pink with blue-violet gradient tips, styled into twin high buns and upright ear-like tufts. To craft that voluminous, dimensional 2D anime silhouette, I spliced and tailored multiple wigs of varying shades; the upright ears at the crown were shaped bit by bit with wire armatures and strong-hold hairspray, and the ahoge curvature underwent countless adjustments to ensure it wouldn't droop while walking the convention floor.
Recreating the wardrobe took equal dedication. Dominated by crisp white, the outfit features metallic-like textures and sharp paneling, while black sections are spliced with translucent ruffled linings. The prominent blue-and-gold diamond gemstone pendant and golden chain across the chest were hand-strung using carefully curated individual charms. To maximize refined intricacy, diverse materials were layered in so the ensemble gained richer sculptural depth under studio strobes. As for the red gloves, to coordinate with the oversized, glossy pink bell sleeves, I custom-tailored the cuffs so they would sit flush without bunching up, preserving canonical proportions.
A huge thank you to photographer WIFI for capturing such incredible chiaroscuro lighting on the convention floor. Convention settings are notoriously tricky with heavy foot traffic and chaotic ambient spill, so we tested several tight angles to keep backdrops pristine. The staff prop was another handcrafted labor of love; while posing with it, the voluminous sleeves easily obscured prop details, requiring me to hold my arms higher with disciplined firmness—though adopting slightly playful stances actually complemented the character's archetype even better.
For posing, I chose a cross-legged seated stance atop the platform, allowing the monochrome white-and-black skirt flares to fan out organically. Flashing a peace sign with the bright red gloves created an instant visual pop before the lens. For the full-body frame, crossing my legs in a seated profile elongated the leg lines, while the black crisscross strappy chunky heels established chromatic harmony with the red gloves. To complete the look, bright blue colored contact lenses and soft pink blush were paired with delicate eye makeup. Given the convention crowds, touch-up kits and hairspray were always within reach in my bag for quick maintenance during every lull. From fabric presence to expressive camera delivery, I poured my all into channeling Denia's vivacious, buoyant spirit.
