Today, I showcased Yangyang's Xuanling look, and the final on-body silhouette turned out even better than anticipated. Starting with the layers of the attire, the inner piece is a black bandeau featuring subtle jacquard damask weaves with a solid, tactile quality. The outer robe is a pale gray, sheer, flowing garment with exquisite cloud and water-ripple embroidery along the cuffs and hem. The silver metallic bracers on the wrists added a gentle heft, which conveniently aided in steadying precise poses. The blue sash at the waist, anchored in front by a silver ornament set with a rounded red gemstone, serves as a primary visual focal point. The feather-like patchwork edging along the lower garment required mindful steps to prevent accidentally disturbing its form while walking.
Moving to hair and makeup, the wig featured straight hair with blunt bangs, requiring meticulous combing to separate the black, white, and blue highlighted sections with crisp definition. The white feather hair ornament perched on the crown and the gold-and-red accessory on the left took considerable time to adjust, ensuring they wouldn't shift when tilting my head or handling props. For eye makeup, blue contacts were chosen to align with the character, complemented by soft pink tones across the eyeshadow and blush, while the base was kept pristine and porcelain to convey a serene yet gentle composure. To harmonize with the blue plumage and tassel trims at the neck and wrists, physical movements had to remain restrained rather than overly sweeping.
The shooting location was set on the yellow tiered steps of an exhibition booth surrounded by bottles of Master Kong Iced Tea. This environment was challenging, as the vivid yellow background and bottle reflections could easily hijack visual focus. I utilized the fan as a foreground element to obscure parts of the busy background. Gripping the gray folding fan with white motifs in my right hand helped block harsh side light when opened. My left hand held the yellow beverage bottle—a down-to-earth prop that created a charming, fourth-wall-breaking bridge between the 2D world and reality within the booth context.
The booth's overhead lighting was fairly harsh, requiring constant micro-adjustments of head angles to cast illumination evenly across the face without leaving deep hollows in the eye sockets. Hand placement with the fan was refined through several trials, ultimately settling just below chest level to display the fan leaf without masking the intricate lace trim on the bodice. When holding the bottle, the wrist was kept relaxed to project an effortless, leisurely demeanor typical of browsing a convention.
Overall, this ensemble is packed with intricate details demanding patience during wearing and adjustment. The metallic clasps and feather alignments required realignment after every sit-and-stand transition. Successfully presenting the Xuanling design under commercial booth illumination—while weaving feathers, metal, textiles, and a folding fan into a cohesive composition—proved to be a memorable shoot. Given the vibrant booth colors, post-processing color grading was carefully restrained to preserve the garment's authentic palette, ensuring an impeccably clean image.
