Taking mirror selfies for this Hsin cosplay from Wuthering Waves, my most immediate impression was the striking dimensional layering of this Hsin cosplay costume. The top features a black tube-top bandeau underneath, layered with wide red-and-white flowing sleeves, while the gold chest ornament inlaid with a crimson gem carries substantial weight, swaying gently with every step. The fabric along the waist sides and skirt drapes beautifully, with red and white ribbons accented by golden embroidery ensuring the overall silhouette never feels flat. For the tail, I opted for an oversized, plush faux-fur build that echoes the animal ears atop my head, instantly bringing out the agile, spirited charm of a little fox spirit.
The wig was a long, straight white style, with wispy bangs trimmed across the forehead. The animal ears on top were doubly anchored using both clips and a headband to make sure they wouldn't slip during the shoot. Because the smartphone covers my face in these shots, subtle expressions and eye contact couldn't be fully showcased—a minor caveat of mirror selfies, so please bear with me! To complement the overarching palette, I paired the outfit with clear high-heeled sandals to elongate the leg lines, which matched the crimson nail polish wonderfully.
The location was an interior space framed by wooden screens and hardwood flooring, utilizing the geometric lines of the wooden lattice windows for framing. The warm yellow ambient lighting cast down to form a rich dialogue against the red-and-black palette of the garments. I explored two main poses: the seated pose utilized the wooden chair and crossed legs, allowing the skirt panels to cascade naturally to highlight side contours and footwear details. The standing pose featured one hand curled into a playful claw gesture, mainly aimed at capturing the flowing dynamics of the full ensemble in motion. With soft light and shadow falling across the wooden partitions and flooring, the moody ambiance emerged naturally without needing heavy post-processing.
Hsin Sentinel's design is very distinct in Wuthering Waves, and this attempt was an explorative journey for me. Since I am not a professional model, I am still learning expression control and body language, and many aspects might not fully reach everyone's expectations—apologies in advance for any OOC moments. Personally, I am most satisfied with the faithful replication of the costume and the tactile plushness of the accessories, bringing to life how I envisioned this look.
After wrapping this shoot, I feel much more comfortable handling this costume. Given the chance in the future, I would love to try diverse outdoor locations and lighting setups to showcase different facets of the character. The process of taking photos is all about continuous adjustment and discovery; finding the right angles for mirror selfies was tricky, but the warm bounce off the wooden floor added a lovely golden hue to the composition—a delightful bonus. Putting on this costume was quite intricate, especially adjusting the back lacing and anchoring the heavy tail, but seeing the final frames made every minute spent feel completely worthwhile.
