[Da Qiao: Journey of Time Cosplay] Honor of Kings Duo Shoot with the Little Bird and Magic Hat

Our schedule at this anime convention was packed, but my partner and I specifically set aside an entire afternoon for our duo cosplay shoot featuring Da Qiao: Journey of Time cosplay and Xiao Qiao: Manga Sorceress cosplay. The details on Da Qiao's outfit are truly endless; the blue-and-white gradient hem paired with metallic accessories instantly elevated my presence once worn. To capture an ethereal lightness, I trimmed a few wispy bangs into the wig, which, along with the blue-and-gold headpiece, reflected a soft glow under the hall lights. The trickiest part was holding the long-handled staff prop—its design is quite abstract, resembling a bird spreading its wings. With a blue body and bright yellow accents, balancing its center of gravity while holding it was essential to avoid looking stiff in poses. Fortunately, the photographer guided us expertly, capturing great interactive moments whether we were standing or seated. My partner's large colorful hat was a huge eye-catcher; the gradient tulle and bow looked like a walking rainbow every time she turned. We also brought a blue-and-black plush bird pendant, attached to the waist or held in hand, which instantly brought the scene to life. Though the convention hall was crowded, we found an empty spot in a corner where floor reflections perfectly mirrored the white and blue details of our outfits. A touch of blue smoke was added on-site, creating a dreamlike floating vibe.

In fact, the best part of doing Anime convention cosplay is this collaborative process—from makeup and costume tweaks to pose design, every step aims to get closer to the character's persona. This shoot gave me a deeper appreciation for the Journey of Time design. The skirt's cut is very unique; the side slit paired with white tights beautifully showcases leg lines while walking, an angle I intentionally emphasized when posing. My partner's Xiao Qiao was more playful and cute, featuring high-heeled black boots with fine strap decorations. Sitting on a folding chair allowed her skirt to spread out naturally, revealing intricate leg pattern details that looked visually charming. Between takes, we helped each other check if wigs were messy or if prop tassels were tangled—these seemingly minor details form the foundation of photo quality. The hall lighting leaned toward cool white, so during post-processing, we only adjusted color temperature and contrast slightly to preserve the original blue-violet tones of the costumes.

This Duo cosplay pairing attracted quite a crowd at the convention, with some passersby recognizing our props and praising the attention to detail. For cosplayers, every photoshoot is a mini self-challenge. Only we know the hurdles faced from character selection to final output, but seeing our seamless chemistry through the lens makes all the prep work worthwhile. During pack-up, we almost left the plush bird prop behind, but luckily my partner rescued it quickly! This shoot didn't rely heavily on complex special effects, relying instead on poses and fabric texture to convey character charm. The combination of white stockings and high heels looked exceptionally slender in dynamic snapshots, a personal favorite perspective of mine. Given the chance next time, we plan to try more interactive poses with the environment, using flowing fabrics or prop extensions to add narrative depth. Overall, it was an incredibly smooth shooting experience—from hair and makeup to lighting and teamwork, everything was just right.
