[Daji cosplay] Fresh Dessert Moments in Honor of Kings: Zhongshan as29 Convention Chronicle

Fresh back from the Zhongshan as29 convention, this set of Daji cosplay photos is finally compiled. The test shots on-site felt incredible, so I'm sharing a few first.

The shooting environment at the convention was quite complex with heavy foot traffic, and the photographer searched for a long time to catch openings for clean backgrounds. While such large expos are lively, capturing high-quality shots demands constant coordination with the photographer. This time I portrayed Daji from Honor of Kings, focusing on a refreshing, sweet aesthetic. The costume primarily featured mint green and white with yellow accents. The large plush ears and massive fluffy tail behind me were the main highlights; navigating through the convention required extreme care not to bump into passersby. To give the skirt a gorgeous voluminous shape, I wore a multi-layered petticoat underneath. The light blonde wig was curled softly, demanding substantial hair density for this specific look.

For hair and makeup, I tried light green contact lenses, soft eyeshadow blended outward at the outer corners, and generous blush. This kind of makeup is light-sensitive—poor lighting can easily flatten facial features—but the photographer set up lighting to sculpt shadows cleanly. The dessert props in hand were prepped in advance and complemented the dress colors beautifully. The full-body composition in Photo 2 has a distinctive layout, where a circular pool of light on the floor accentuated my leg lines. Pairing White stockings with platform block heels elongated leg proportions far better than standard flats. The half-body shots in Photos 1 and 3 tested facial expression control even more: tilting the head slightly, holding the dessert tray or resting a chin in hand, instantly locking into character the moment the photographer called for eye contact.

The entire shoot took considerable time, repeatedly squatting, standing, and twirling, which was physically exhausting. The ambient hall lighting was very cold, so to keep my skin tone from looking greenish, the photographer set up reflective umbrellas and softboxes, taking time to fine-tune lighting positions and angles. This costume is an intricate, delicate design; during the shoot, we had to watch the draping of the skirt folds, as messy gathers would be troublesome in post-processing. Fortunately, the photographer was exceptionally meticulous, ensuring every raw frame was captured precisely.

Having been in the cosplay community for several years, I see so many heartfelt, dedicated works at every convention. Collaborating with the photographer and logistics crew to document a beloved character within the convention atmosphere is deeply fulfilling. Packing up props after wrapping, we noticed the weight of the tail had wrinkled the dress slightly, so we tidied it up once more. Conventions are always an endurance test, but feeling everyone's shared passion for the characters makes it worthwhile. The color grade of this set was tuned to match the fresh canon palette. Overall, this was a fantastic photoshoot experience.
