[Da Qiao cosplay] Honor of Kings Da Qiao Custom Hanfu Design: Touring the Goldfish Theater

For this Custom Hanfu design of Da Qiao, I chose crimson and gold as the primary color palette, paired with multi-strand braided hair. The garments feature semi-sheer lightweight chiffon adorned with heavy gold embroidery, deliberately incorporating an off-the-shoulder silhouette, complemented by vivid blue accents on the headpiece to balance classical elegance with airy, celestial grace. Combining the staff in my hand with the floating bubble effects in the venue felt like genuinely stepping into a mystical illusion. To match this styling, I wore blue contact lenses and applied richer eye makeup and blush than usual, ensuring my overall aura harmonized with this fantastical backdrop.

Arriving at the BFC Goldfish Theater, the immersive light-and-shadow experience was truly eye-opening. Beyond the ten oriental dreamscapes, there were diverse transparent aquariums, especially that colossal suspended metal fish head sculpture, which offered immense visual impact. Goldfish glided beneath the lights, echoing the red flowing light streams projected onto the floors and walls, making virtually every spot instantly photogenic. I particularly loved the interactive transparent bubble zone, where scattered pink petals gave the composition rich layers of depth. The play of light and shadow cast delicate textures across the sheer skirt, bringing the static costume dynamically to life.

Beyond great photo opportunities, the exhibition provided fascinating insights into goldfish heritage. Observing these ornamental national treasures evolved through a thousand years of selective breeding made me admire the aesthetic vision and patience of the ancients. Admiring the fish while shooting made for a uniquely immersive viewing experience. With over a hundred rare goldfish varieties on display, I also learned how to identify common breeds and picked up interesting trivia—such as how various color patterns and body shapes were bred step-by-step—delighting both the eyes and the mind.

This time I brought along the Sony A7R6 paired with the 28-70mm GM and 50-150mm GM lenses; the 50-150mm focal range proved exceptionally handy for indoor portraits like this, where a wide aperture smoothly dissolved the background lighting to accentuate the subject while framing close-up interactions with the aquariums. As light washed over the chiffon dress, straight-out-of-camera colors were already wonderfully rich. The indoor ambient light was fairly complex, blending venue projection beams, cool aquarium glows, and overhead fixtures. Sony's sensitivity and dynamic range performed solidly here, retaining dark shadows cleanly without blowing out highlights. Shooting close-ups with the 50-150mm GM was especially rewarding, rendering creamy out-of-focus bokeh that transformed cluttered light patches into gorgeous circular orbs.

I explored various shooting angles during this session—such as low angles to showcase the vast expanse of the skirt, or overhead angles to highlight nuanced facial expressions. Thanks to dynamic candid captures, the texture of the chiffon was fully unleashed whenever the skirt twirled. Overall, the makeup and styling resonated seamlessly with the location, and the crimson Hanfu displayed incredible dimensional depth within the warm amber glow. Compared to standard studio shoots, exhibitions with interactive and educational elements make the creative process far more engaging. From garment textures to set design, every detail was worth exploring slowly and recording with heart. I definitely look forward to trying out different styles next time.
